Well the song in question is certainly a reworking of the Safaris thing!
But ... I think it's the song that the Fender IV (Holden, anyway) call Highway Surfer. This Berryesque rocker is Little Ollie. Site:

And, of course, it is identified here (and everywhere) as Highway Surfer. Incidentally, do not update your music player or anything else for a site like this ...
Good thing we know which ones are Margaya, Everybody Up, and Malibu Run. I think.

Norm, thanks very much for clarifying that! I have Wailin' on the Beach, so I have the Safaris song, but I guess it's been a bit too long since I've last listened to it and I never made the connection between that and Little Ollie.
John, I'm quite sure the slow song is Little Ollie, and the fast song is Highway Surfer. There was an interview with Randy Holden way back where he talked about all the special effects he used on the song Little Ollie. There are no special effects on the fast song, so ergo Little Ollie must be the slow one, which after all is full of heavy tremolo, scratches of various kinds, etc.

Bump!
This is one of the threads that made me decide to JUST JOIN SURFGUITAR101.COM ALREADY. So much truth in just a few pages.
Months after joining in early 2017, I was still obsessed with the Fender IV, and ended up ordering the Fender IV/Sons of Adam comp directly from Randy Holden's site. He sent me the other compilation, instead (the one without the Sons of Adam songs, and with the two later-period instrumentals).
I didn't care, though, when I realized he had responded to my earnest note (of fandom + love for the Fender IV sound) that I'd sent along with my PayPal payment. He signed the CD, and wrote a brief but warm note to me.
To anyone worrying about sound quality, like I was, it's fine! I compared this version of "Everybody Up" with the version I'd bought from iTunes. Whereas the iTunes version is RIP-ROARING, it sounds like it was sourced from someone's vinyl, whereas the direct-from-Randy-Holden CD sounds like it was sourced from the master tapes.
It's still heavy, broody, and sounds like the band was overwhelming the studio mics, but it's a little bit clearer and more distinct, without some of the vinyl sounds I've grown used to, and with plenty of power.
The additional Fender IV songs that I hadn't heard before were great, too.

Chipper, this thread is about the band called The Fender IV. It has nothing to do with a Fender Bass VI. If you aren't already familiar with the Fender IV may I humbly suggest you leave your self-described MoAM? bubble and listen to some other forms of surf music? The Fender IV were not very prolific, but their songs like Mar Gaya, Everybody Up, Malibu Run, and Little Ollie are genre defining classics.
The Nebulas covered Mar Gaya but for some reason I never quite understood they changed the signature drum beat, giving it a different feel.

Speaking of Margaya, here's a little something my band put together while trying out some new recording gear!

Chipper, sorry, I was a bit cranky this morning. I was just reacting to what you wrote in another thread:
I think I'm in the vast minority of people here who play surf by accident, and don't really listen to it at all.
Aside from woodshedding our own stuff, and playing a few classics for the ComedyX house band gig, MOAM is the only stuff i listen to on my own, and many here would argue that they technically aren't surf, and I might be inclined to agree
I was just humbly suggesting you might want to check out the Fender IV since I'm sure your band-mates hold them in very high esteem.

I love the aggressive early groups like the Fender IV and the Original Surfaris. And the mystique behind the ever-perpetuated swapped labelling of the dark, brooding Malibu Run (with the harmonic tremolo) and the ska-ish Little Ollie just adds to the whole coolness factor.
