I somehow never knew that Wailers version.
The Bambi Molesters version is my favourite track on Intensity.
Never knew it was a cover.
The original is just as mezmerising.
My Top 10 for next year has just changed. WOW.
The Dynotones here in So. Cal. Cover high wall
Putting fuzz to it. I've always known it as a Wailers song.
As I got a best of, of the Wailers way back in the late 90s.
I only recently heard that Debonares version.
Of course I really love the Bambi Molesters version too.

I don't know how happy the Bambi Molesters were with the final mix, but I love the sound of that album Intensity. It sounds like it was recorded in a giant concrete room or something...natural reverb with volume distortion, and just really raw and even harsh sounding at times. "Tempted" is a perfect example. Such a great track.

Hi Jake, Great version, up there with the best, but I still prefer the original ??? I have on a collection. Originally titled 'Showdown At New Point' I dont know what album it originally came from or how the title was changed to 'Black Sand Beach' but check it out if you can. Maybe its something like the original version of 'Surf Rider' was originally called 'Spodnik'. Why was it changed? Sounds better I suppose.

Cool! The Pacifics! I never heard them before. Here's what Peter Hood of the Atlantics said about the Pacifics in an interview:
"I think the funniest band of all was The Pacifics. I think Nat Kipner put them together In an attempt to match and swamp us. That's why he called them The Pacifics! He gave them as close as possible the same sound as us and put them on the bill against us. They weren't that bad either! Anyway, they disappeared soon after because like anything else, you can't really imitate someone for too long."
Good to finally hear them - Peter was right, they're pretty good!

Hi Ivan,
'Barracuda' by The Pacifics got some airplay on radio when it was released. I thought it was an awesome track back then and still do, which is why I have it included on my list.
A couple more you might not have heard from 'Down Under' way back then are 'The Swan' by Dave Bridge and 'Beachcomber' by The Statesmen. Maybe not officially 'surf'?? but killer instrumentals just the same!

Yes, I guess the Bambis version is played after they heard the Debionaires version. OR after they heard the Phantom surfers version from one of their early fantastic records!?!:

And the Phantom Surfers played this version after they heard the Debionaires version.
At last the Debionaires created this cool surf version.
...and, hey, there is another song on the Bambis great "Intensity" album which is a cover and I guess only a few people will know anything about it... No, it is not Latinia for sure.
...here it is:

Nice, Ralf! I had never bothered to track that one down. The Bambi's did another great job adapting that.

Here's mine...
- Belairs - "Mr. Moto" (It was the Agent Orange version that first sparked my interest in Surf Music, but I love PJ's original version the most.)
- Dick Dale - "Miserlou" (Also "Night Owl" is a guilty pleasure !!)
- Yuzo Kayama - "Black Sand Beach"
- Link Wray - "Jack the Ripper"
- Ventures - "Ginza Lights" ("Joker's Wild" was close)
- Surfaris - "Point Panic"
- Lively Ones - "Shootin' the Pier"
- Eddie & the Showmen - "Toes on the Nose"
- Revels - "Intoxica" ("Comanche" was close)
- Jack Nitzsche - "The Last Race"
Extra five...
- Rumblers - "Boss"
- Blazers - "Bangalore"
- Hustlers - "Kopout"
- Debonairs - High Wall (Didn't know about the Wailers but I love it when the Dynotones cover it.)
- Sentinals - "Tuff Soul" (or is this a Centurions' original ?)
And I look forward to drinking with BTD soon where he's gonna tell me most of my choices are not technically "Surf Music".
