Is that the amp, the guitar, the speaker, or all three together? But your point about a bass speaker is valid. I don't want to bust a guitar speaker that's not up to the bass register.

echo/reverb'ish bass sound, it can't be played/strummed as a guitar, allowing only a few chords in the upper register. It will be a bass, B-B will be nicer on those guitar-speakers allowing you to play it like a reg. tuned guitar. I remember having the solo-part from Witchita lineman as a bass VI reference before getting one myself skip to 1.47 the route to this tone, along with the Morricone'sque spy/spag-west sound will be the B-B setup. Maybe a second bass VI with the La Bellas in time.

I disagree. The bass VI isn't a baritone. Tune it as it was intended and play it through a guitar amp. It will sound great. And you CAN play cords on it, although you may not want to strum too vigorously (Robert Smith may have a different view). Don't forget the reverb, obviously.

I just finished hi-volume testing the Squier Bass VI with my amps. I had the Squier volume on 10 for all tests.

My Quilter MicroPro-200 was stupid loud (Gain 8/10. Master Volume 8/10. Gain Limiter Off) without speaker flutter. The tone, even with only the neck pickup on, was super-crisp. The amp picked up and exaggerated every scratch of my fingers on those round wound strings. Using a pick cut the scratch way down, but glissandos and slides were still painful. Turning Gain off got rid of some but not all of this at this volume level. Overall, I found the Quilter too brilliant (think Dolby sound samples of breaking glass and things they put at the beginning of films these days) to play with the Bass VI at super-hi volume. But at recording volumes the amp sounds wonderful with none of these effects. Balanced, no unwanted noises, very guitar-like. It suppose it will do fine mic'd and through its' Direct Out to a sound board at a reasonable volumes.

Trying to use my Peavey 30 Bass amp was a failure. The speaker fluttered at 8/10 volume and the amp wasn't anything nearly loud enough. It really isn't designed for these volumes. It sounded nice at lower volumes when I played on the high B & E strings, but not nearly as nice as the Quilter. It's just a practice amp after all.

The Music Man 212-130HD? I didn't need to bother with using it on Hi (130 WATTS). Low (65 WATTS) was plenty loud enough to rattle everything near it. It sounded the best by a lot. I kept the Bass VI on the bridge pickup out of deference to the speakers, and the tone was all Fender guitar, except lower.

Since I won't take the Music Man anywhere, I'm going to have to give serious thought to my old Fender Stage 112SE. It's plenty loud, if not as loud as the Music Man 212-130HD, makes the Bass VI sound terrific at normal performing volumes, and is pretty inexpensive. Even has an effects loop missing from the Music Man.

Is this a valid test? I don't know. But it answered the questions I had about using a Squier Bass VI with my guitar amps at very high volume. I hope you find it helpful.

Absolutely! And that's my quandary. For a LOT less than what it would cost me to get the right 15" speaker and put it in a cab, I can reacquire my old Stage 112SE amp, and I already know how fabulous my Bass VI sounds through it. It's also a lot cheaper than Quilter's own extension cab. And thanks!

Oh, and I forgot to mention the Squire Bass VI is a hoot to play!
