REALLY doesn't look like it would work... Could be very cool, though..

I've got a little venture in mind regarding vinyl pickguards...

If all goes well, I'll keep you up to date.

IMO.

I'm looking forward to trying out a Squier VM Bass VI. I like that it has the "strangle switch"... I think that's the key to getting a good 60s styled bass VI sound.

It is super close, as I thought. Maybe the Squier will fit though. I did a mock up using a picture I found online, I took these green lines to be 15"s apart and then accordingly sized up in Indesign and imposed a 12" circle around it. It is about an eight of an inch short, and as you can maybe tell from the following picture, I sized up a little too much, probably not enough to account for an eight of an inch, but we can cheat on the pickguard, just shorten the length behind the bridge slightly and we'd be good.

Regardless, the Squier guard itself will serve as the template for creating a template my buddy can use(they, a best friend a great pal, sell vinyl pickguards at mmguitarbar.com)

So, at the moment I am thinking of getting black, getting the vinyl guard, and painting the headstock black.

The best!

This is a great development.

I bought an early 90s MIJ Bass VI new.. And the new Squier Jazz and Jags surpass it in quality. The switches on the MIJ are wobbly, the insulation on the wires, so soft you can peel it with a finger nail...

Then having played one of teh mixed up fender pawnshops bass VIs last summer. it should remain in the pawnshop. it didn't have anything i ever associated with classic Bass VI sounds.

With the Jazz/Jags of last summer, i expect these basses to be great quality for everyone that plays it as is.

Should they come out with a coronado.. perhaps a XII or... yeah. squier is doing it right.

I'm assuming those pickguards are the ones on ebay as well, Jake? He's one of the only guys who sells them, or at least markets. I think there a couple vinyl pickguard makers hiding in the corners of various guitar forums... But they don't advertise their product, they just expect everyone to know that they sell them.

I can't seem to find any information about a stateside release of these. Has anyone been able to find information on this?

They are out in the market in europe, so there MUST be a part number for it. Then you call guitar center and have them order it for you. Is it on the website yet? get the stock number from there.

that's how i ordered my Jaguar last year. No stores had them anywhere. Just order direct thru an authorized Fender dealer, simple as that.

ok.. i checked the website really quick.. i didn't see it, maybe i missed it. But jump on that offset forum and maybe one of the people that have one can find the number for you.

Awesome. And, I second the recent motion to reissue the Coronado II and Electric XII.

I truly love my 1996 MIJ Fender Electric VI, bought used in 2007, at Sam Ash in Indianapolis, for the (get this...) hefty price of $795.00 U.S.D., and had just been cleared to sell (as in not stolen) when I found it!

Well, the Squier VM Bass VI has arrived in the UK. Discovering that GAK in Brighton had them in stock. Not only that, but they were at a discounted price (£275), so I called in to give one a try. Since I already own a 1961 Bass VI, I was rather hoping that they wouldn't look all that good, or wouldn't play too well, or wouldn't sound like the real thing, so that I'd have a good excuse NOT to buy one. I was instantly disappointed; it looked the part, it felt good and sounded like a Bass VI. I'm not generally a fan of bound necks or block inlays on Fenders, but the neck on this was nice. It seemed shallow,in a good way. The radius is 9.5" which makes it flatter than the original, but I didn't mind that too much. The other modifications are that truss rod access is at the headstock end and there is only one (wide) groove in the bridge saddles, but both of these seem like good ideas to me.

In short; I was seriously impressed and at that price I just had to buy it. They're flying off the shelves by the way. The guys in GAK told me that they got eight in on Friday and I was buying the last one at lunch time on Saturday. My only slight disappointment is that they only had the sunburst left in stock, while I would have preferred Olympic White. I prefer the sunburst to having to wait around six weeks for the next order to come in, though. Looks like Fender might sell a lot of these.

Thanks for the impressions django; I was completely sold before, but now I am thinking of trying to reserve one or special ordering one from a shop. I am so stoked about this.

There's your numbers. Call Guitar Center and order one. I did this early last July and got my VM Jag before they hit the stores.

Do it. I doubt you will be disappointed. I intend to write new Bass VI numbers on the back of this.

Oh, I have a Bass VI wiring diagram jpeg, if you're interested.
