That's great, Jake!

Funny you put Robert Smith's picture up. He's the first person I ever recognized playing a Bass VI and a Jazzmaster, at least that I remember, when I watched MTV back when it first came out in 1981. I'd seen pictures of Jazzmasters on my dad's records, but never actually saw someone playing one until the Cure and Elvis Costello videos allowed me to see the JM in action. First time I saw the Bass VI I was really confused at first. What a cool instrument! Now I actually have one. I've been a fan of 6 string basses, but never really played one until George Tomsco brought his Danelectro 6 string bass to Phoenix last year. The Squier plays much better than that old Danelectro, too.

I had a friend of mine talk to the artist relations rep here in Nahville about a Bass VI in December and he said they couldn't keep these guitars in stock at the time, they were going so fast so I'd be surprised if Fender dropped them.

I wish they offered more colors Sad

A change of the pickguard does amazing things. I personally like the black on black but the white on white is pretty stark too. I think the sunburst is stunning but so does everyone else so I usually go the path less travelled.

Congrats, Matt! I don't really play mine too often, but I'm so glad it's around when I do want to play it. So the rumor is that the ENTIRE Squier line is being discontinued, or just the Bass VI series? That kind of talk almost makes me want to have 2!

Jake, did you ever own a Gretsch Bamboo yellow aniversary 6118?

Yes I did! Mine really sucked... It was before I knew how to set up a guitar, but mostly I think I hated that bridge. I hate big bar bridges or bridges with big saddles. Tone destroying. Gorgeous though! I love Anniversarys, save for that specific one!

I ask because I bought it from you and still have it. It now has a Tru-Arc bridge. It's all good now.

Great story! Elvis Costello was very important to my music upbringing. He was the first person I associated with the Jazzmaster. And the Cure is so important to me as well. What Robert Smith did with that Bass VI... oh my god... Just utterly original, amazing, game changing.

Right on! Glad you got it set up right! I really enjoyed it, it was my first REALLY NICE instrument. But the other guys got Anniversaries as well and theres were set up nicer/had a better bridge. I wish I knew better at the time!

Good to run into you. Values on the Bamboo Annie have gone up too. I see you and I are on the same page on the Squier VI. Here in another month I'm going to pull the trigger on the black one and order the black pg from the guy on Ebay that sells out of Austin. I'm on the fence about investing $100 into a Staytem Bass VI bridge. You know Fender put out a Jaguar Baritone Special that looks just like what you want to do with the Bass VI complete with black headstock. Difference being 2 Jag pups and a 27.5 in. scale. Not any around right now.

Cool! The bridge was hard to spend the money on, but... it has the correct 1" spacing... so it will look good and it looks like it will be much better. I'd gladly spend $700 on a Bass VI, so I am investing to make it play a little nicer/take more abuse.

I didn't see that Baritone special, I've gotta have the Bass VI shape and the 30" scale though!

Same here. Not sure what I'll do with it. I will tune it to B or A. I'm looking to put it in the realm of a baritone than bass. Kind of a best of both worlds. I can always change it. You may sway me on the Staytrem.

Go Jake go!
The fun for money ratio on this one seems bulletproof.
I got mine (White) coming soon, Gold pickguard planned.

Oooh... a gold guard would look really sharp!

Gold? That's cool. Like a Black J. Macuis Jazzmaster/Bass VI. But gotta change the pup covers to black! If you don't do it I will.

Yeah man you go do it!
Mine's gonna be Gold on a White body, to fully contrast my Aztec Gold Jazzmaster with White PG... That's the plan anyway,
Does anyone have a recommendation for a good source of sparkly Gold material? I can cut it myself, if I won't find a VI ready pickguard.

Ariel, check out Pickguardian -- they have gold flake material, as well as Rickenbacker-style clear acrylic backed with gold paint. Is that what you're looking for?

Flake
Ric-style
(Scroll down)

Old punks never die... They just become surf rockers.

Thanks man!
Both options look good, I think I'll get them all. If I have a template ready, more pickguards could get made...

thanks Mike! I'm going to plug it in tonight, hopefully.

Yeah, I heard it from someone who is usually pretty reliable, but I think he was just getting my goat...get it (your picture). I haven't read anything about it. It'd be suicide to discontinue Squier.
