Hi Everyone! I'm Matt from Ottawa, Canada. Longtime surf guitar fan, but finally took the plunge and recorded my first album which should be out in the next week or so.

So much to read here, I've been lurking most of the month but have barely scratched the surface...

Cheers!

Howdy. My name in Mike. I played in a surf band in the early sixties in San Bernardino, CA. I just return to CA from Guam after spending 40 years there working for the government.

I got to this site after seeing the promo for Jim Messina's Jesters. I just realized the promo was for a tribute band, not Jimmy.

Maybe I will run into some past acquaintances from the day, like Joey Geiniece who was in the Showmen then changed the name to the Majestcs, surf bands from Riverside, CA and later played with Dale by March Air Force Base in the early 70's.

Does anyone know if Roly Sanders is still performing? He was the lead guitar player with the Tornadoes.

How about Lenny Angle who played lead guitar with the Genteels from Berdoo?

Those were the leading groups from the Berdoo/Riverside area in the early sixties.

Indeed, we are three members. My sister on drums and our friend Manuel on bass. We active five years. Last 2014 self released our debut album and before the end of this year will return to the recording studio. Our debut album was recorded live, the better decision.

Hi, I'm John in Massachusetts. I've liked surf music since forever but I'm kind of a newbie to playing it. I was a serious blues and bluesy-rock guitarist in my 20s, but that was 20 years ago. Kids and career took me away from guitar for a while, but I've been getting back into it recently. Still have most of my old gear, most of it says "Fender" on it, the blues scene around here is way over-saturated, so digging deep into surf seems the way to go right now. So far I'm having a blast.

The "teal '66" is a Jazzmaster that I bought as several piles of vintage parts many years ago. The neck and number plate date to '66, so I'm calling it a '66, but the body and pickups are '63 and the tailpiece is a patent-pending version that allegedly came off of a '60 (as did most of my wiring harness and a few other bits). It's not actually teal yet -- the body was stripped when I got it -- but that will change shortly. The neck is a sweet near-mint bound-and-dot piece stamped "13 MAR 66 B". I will post pics when it's done. I also have some Strats, and I seem to be about to re-acquire a BF Dual Showman that I owned for several years back in the day.

So... hi, y'all! Anyone know of any active surf bands in the Boston-Providence area? The Nebulas seem to have mostly petered out, but I'd love to go see whoever is around.

Welcome to sg101, tealsixtysix! Glad you're here. Can't wait to see your '66 JM when it's done.

There are quite a few surf/instro bands near you. I took this list of names off the North East Surf Music Alliance (NESMA) website http://www.nesmasurf.org/what_is_nesma.htm.

B11, Big Wipeouts, Beachcombovers, Blandingos, Crimson Ghosts, Derangers, Fathoms, Gein & the Graverobbers, Matt Heaton & the Electric Heaters, Preston Wayne 4, SPF-4, SpyTones, Trabants, Tsunami of Sound, Undertows, Zuni Fetish Experiment (ZFE).

There's also The Weisstronauts. I'm sure I'm missing a few.

Have fun getting to know everyone!

I've been lurking around the forum for a while and finally got organised to join. Always searching for Link Wray related info and enjoy bungling around on my Jaguar Classic Player and Eastwood/Airline Twin Tone...nice guitar once you've swopped the pups. Went for some GFS Surf 90's and they work mighty fine.
