wow ran, i like your dedication. I am already halfway there. I will buy a new one from muscians friend for 400. All the ones on ebay get to be over 300 plus another 25 in shipping. For like 60-70 bucks i can just get my own.

The Musician's Friend site lists the Fender unit at $499. It might be creeping up in price as I swear I have seen it cheaper there before. Also, they only have it in tan these days. I'm looking for a black one myself. Right now I use a combination of Fostex stereo reverb (dual spring) into alesis Quadraverb into combo amps with onboard reverb cranked to 10. It has plenty of drip for my current needs. Still, I will probably get a Fender unit just 'cuz.

Our bass player just bought a Danelectro Spring King through eBay. He loves it simply for the tap plate and now ends almost every darn song with a reverb crash. He also uses the reverb on his bass for certain intro/outro parts. What do expect from a guy who brings a theremin and vibra-slap onstage with his bass.

yup paul is right. They jacked it up 100 bucks. Im really kicking myself because about 2 weeks ago, there was a blem for 320 on Musicans friend. This is a real ball buster.

Just to weigh in, the Fender Reverb tank is absolutely essential for surf music. There is no substitute. If you are a beginner and in love with the surf tone, there is only one way to get it. Save your money looking for a shortcut, you'll just have a box of pedals that you'll never use once you get a tank.

say, Ferenc, didn't I catch you and Jono on a European tour, touting a digiverb ?.....

anyway, I can see many circumstances where a pedal reverb would be justified ....not wanting to risk damaging valuable tank on the plane for one ..... I have one for backup ... was also used by our second guitarist inbetween getting rid of reverb equipped amp and getting a tank ... I think it's a fair choice if you're a bedroomplayer and are not sure about whether you're still surfing in few months, or might have taken on metal or whatever ... and they DO sound pretty good at bedroom volumes (better than at live/rehearsal volume anyway) ... and also if you're in a garage band and just want to add one or two surf songs to your set.
I for one think that digiverb (the cheapest of the dig verb pedals) is a very good product, very versatile and good value for money, the non surf reverb settngs are very very good, some of tem usable for simple home recording mixing even.

having said that .... if you are serious about surf ...

THERE'S NO SUBSTITUTE FOR A TANK. A TANK IS THE ONLY WAY TO GET THE REAL SURF SOUND, PERIOD.

I for one think that Digiverb (the cheapest of the dig verb pedals) is a very good product, very versatile and good value for money, the non surf reverb settngs are very very good, some of tem usable for simple home recording mixing even.

We didn't want to fly with our tanks, so we had to find something. I tested quite a few footpedal reverbs and the Digiverb won. The fact that it was the cheapest is a bonus. It has a setting marked "Spring" so you know they at least thought about the tank sound when they designed it. I haven't used it since that tour.

the line 6 verbzilla's spring sound clip on their website sounded pretty good. i know alot of people dont like line 6, but their stuff is pretty good and at least versitile, and works pretty good for playing at home, particularly if you play a variety of styles but dont wanna spend the money to get really nice rigs for each style.

I've got a Digiverb and the Verbzilla. I obviously prefer my Fender tank but if I had to use a pedal, the Digiverb is better for surf. The Verbzilla has a decent spring setting, just not near as authentic as the Digitech.
