I'm with you, definitely looks delicious.

IMO.

It's Marr's secret stash that he's taking on tour, not sure if it will ever be an offering from Fender though.

So, Mike, with your new Strat, what are your thoughts on 'a man cannot serve two masters'?? Mr. Green

For these masters, I'm foolish enough to try serving both (or both serving me?), despite the contrary ancient wisdom! I guess I'm one of those oddballs that can appreciate the differences between tools, especially such well-made ones. The Jag has been getting jealous lately, though. Uh-Oh

IMO.

So who's got one of these and what do you think about using it for surf and retro-instro?

I have/had one. It is for sale. It is Jag, nothing about it that makes it better for a style of music compared to any other Jag. I hated the bridge, but the trem arm was nice(spring is just a typical modern spring...), pickups are better than the usual Fender fare(haven't played the new '65s though).

What's didn't you like about the bridge Jake? I'm looking at this model Jaguar. The signature on the headstock. Was that under or ontop of the finish?

Hey Bill,
IMO this is a hell of a guitar for the price. Nothing wrong with the bridge for me, or anything at all for that matter. I really love all the upgrades on it, just very subtile and doesn't destroy the Jaguar-ness of it.
My '62 RI took a backseat to this one right away.

zzounds.com almost always has a blemished (open box) one available for $1439. That's a hell of a deal for a guitar made in Corona!

PS - The sig is under the finish, but it's pretty small if that's an issue.

I just don't like how they resonate. It loses some of the top end sparkle that a Jag should have(in my opinion).

The signature was under the finish.

It's just a Mustang bridge, is it really that much different than say a Mastery? I'm just curious, I've never tried a Mastery.

Its a modified mustang bridge, and it's terrible. I bought one thinking it would be like a staytrem, but it is a poor immitation. The height adjustment screws have the nylon rings so the height stays maintained. Thats the only good part.

The slots on the saddles seem closer together, and are very shallow. So thicker strings might have issues staying in the slot. As for intonation saddle adjustment, there are these crappy springs that try (but fail) to keep forward pressure on the saddles, but they dont work and they rattle like crazy. Also, I lost 2 intonation screws from about 45 minutes of playing, so I had to locktite the screws just to keep them from flying off during a gig.

Get a proper staytrem if you want height and saddle stability. Or just get a plain old mustang bridge. Its way better than the garbage Johnny Marr bridge.

Its really disapointing, I had high hopes for the bridge, but its just plain terrible.

Huge difference! The Mastery bridge is more like the original bridge, as it had saddle screws that sit on the bridge plate. The Mustang/Staytrem/JM Bridge have saddles that sit directly on the bridge plate. I really don't like how this sounds, it loses that great sparkle that the Jag has.

The slots on the saddles seem closer together, and are very shallow.

And also too close to the edge of the fretboard. Horrible spacing...
Stay Trem uses the same spacing as the Mastery(Staytrem likely borrowed from the Mastery for which I know a backstory to this).

Hmmmm… I've had no problems with mine so far. I had it set up a little over a year ago right after I bought mine and I've played many live shows with it since.

Even if you do want to replace the bridge, it's still a great deal for a guitar assembled in the USA factory.

Cool. I may give the Mastery bridge a shot. Thanks.
