That's wonderful!

I remember reading about a girl with severe autism, who couldn't communicate at all for years... One day they found her at a computer, typing away.

Technology really can be such a wonderful thing.

IMO.

Thanks, Preston! It has made a difference already. It talks to her, encourages her to speak more clearly, patiently tries to answer her questions by doing searches for her, and never ignores her. It even performs simple chats with her - all without requiring her to type or read. And the more Corradina uses it, the more it learns about her and adapts to her abilities.

Good story, Noel. I hope your house is handicap ready for your wife. Several years ago my wife had both knees worked on. I found out we weren't very prepared in just a few minutes.

Thanks so much! My son and I set up everything before we brought Barb home. Do you know they sell special toilet seats for patients who've had hip and knee surgery. Barb is sitting comfortably in the recliner next to me.

That's really fantastic.

Also, glad Barb is doing well. Best of luck to her.

Great news on all fronts, Noel! Sounds like 2015 is off to a great start for you & yours. Wishing you all the best!

Thanks, Bob! 2014 was a terrific year for all of us, with lots of wonderful memories made which will last a lifetime. I wish it could have been so joyful for everyone. There's so much going on in 2015, I don't know how we'll fit it all in.

Now if I could only get some quality time with a guitar. Big Grin

Whew! I'm up in the music room for the first time in a long while practicing guitar. Callouses all but gone and I'm so rusty an orange cloud is forming around me as I play. Ugh! Pretty bad. Encouragement needed as I have not learned the three songs by now I was supposed to after Thanksgiving. I have them and several more to start on.

Barb is recovering nicely. Her foot-long incision over her replaced right hip is all but completely healed on the outside. The muscles inside still have a way to go, but she's climbing stairs, and we went out to dinner the other night.

Henry's report date is getting closer ever day. We're having a Bon-Voyage party for him a few days before he leaves. Henry's outside shoveling snow right now. I'm sure gonna miss him. But I raised him to go out into the world. Henry's as ready as I could prepare him, and he's rarin' to go! Look out Navy - here he comes!

I've mostly been lurking around here, and it's about time to get back to normal. Now back to my guitar.

Good news) all the best wishes to your wife and the soonest recovery!
Your son will be ok! Navy military service, right? Or I misunderstood?

Also nice you are back to guitar playing, it may be difficult after a break but it may also bring something new and fresh to your playing as a kind of reload)

Noel, because you and I are close in age, I know there's lots of things you don't mention. I'm glad that your world is progressing well. As far as encouragement, just use the same determination that you found the first time you learned songs. Smile I can't seem to find enough time to make half the progress you have. It takes about 4 times as much effort to learn at our age as compared to 20. I haven't calculated the memory part out but it surely is exponential! Playing guitar has to be better than scooping snow! Smile

Well, Henry's bon voyage party has come and gone. Many testimonials were said. The room was filled with proud, sad, excited and happy faces.

This time tomorrow, a number of friends will be here to say farewell as I get ready to drive Henry to the bus that will take him to Harrisburg, where he and many others will have their formal swearing-in on Wednesday, before flying to Great Lakes, Chicago, for two months of Basic Training. We're driving out tomorrow night, so we can have dinner with him. We'll have one more day together, in May, when we go to Chicago for his Pass In Review before assignment to a ship.

I was not a Benjamin Spock father like my Dad was. (Mom insisted!) I challenged Henry at every fork in his road, to take the best opportunity, work harder, make better choices, and rise to every occasion. I promised him, if he did, he'd accomplish things he could only imagine doing. And Henry exceeded my every expectation. He's a far, far better man at 20 than I was. His friends are amazingly loyal, because he is. He's earned the respect and admiration of everyone who's ever worked with him. He's already made significant differences for the better in the lives of many, many people. And he's made far fewer mistakes than I did.

Tomorrow, his old life ends and his new life begins. I'm so proud of him I could bust wide open.
