Congrats to all! My daughter, Hadleigh, just finished 7th grade, one only of 3 in her class with a 4.0.
And a welcome to Arizona Andy!

All I wish I knew what they were talking about

Hello everyone!

It seems like a year since I've been here. I had a brief free period on Saturday and jumped into the IRC Chat Room in time to talk briefly with Brian, Dave, Ivan & Pete. Really served to bring home how much I miss everyone.

I've stopped by for brief lurks every once in a while, and made a short post or two, but I know I've missed a lot.

Family matters are occupying most of my time. My son, Henry, who's soon to enter the Navy, and I went to see Dawn of the Planet of the Apes yesterday. It was the first time in many, many months we could pal around, and it was wonderful. We'll see Lucy when it comes out. He's short time, and it will be strange here after he reports.

I've been grilling up a lot of dinners. Good times and good food with good friends! Two London Broils last night. Delicious.

I've put all other music projects temporarily aside, and am focusing exclusively on the Beach Boys instrumental tribute at the 2014 Ventures East Coast Fan Fest. I'm now playing on ten of the thirteen songs. So I'm learning the songs from scratch and, in many cases, the chords and changes required to play them. It's a real musical education. I hope to be free of the charts by October, but it's a lot of music for me. I'd rather play everything correctly than forget what I'm doing.

I was asked on Saturday about the guitar I'll use and if I'm playing any leads. My Jaguar is waiting. But, after thinking a lot about it, and especially after seeing them play live, I decided to play rhythm on my Lake Placid Blue Fender Sonoran CSE acoustic-electric. I'm adding a second rhythm voice to the primary electric rhythm guitarists, who are playing Al Jardine's parts. It sounds great slightly behind the mix and really adds to the over-all sound of each song. I'll be using my Bass VI on Good Vibrations to play Mike Love's low-down vocals and some rhythm chords around them. Besides, I will use my Jaguar on the 15-minute Wipe Out jam.

That's about it. I hope everyone's having a wonderful summer!

Happy Trails!

SG101!

Sounds like you're enjoying your family and the summer Noel.
I'm glad to hear that your musical journey is continuing. I know you'll do a great job on The Beach Boys tribute.
I met your friend Paul and his wife at the D'Addario NAMM party. They were very nice and it was great to put a face to the name.

My son, Henry, is reporting for Navy Basic Training on March 4, 2014. I have no mixed emotions right now. Still a teenager for a few more weeks, he is fully the man I tried so hard to raise him up to be.

Best of luck to him. Smile

IMO.

Thank you, Preston! I'll tell him.

As you may know, my daughter Corradina isn't able to read or write independently. This has always severely limited her ability to use social networking with her friends. We gave her a tablet for Christmas on which we loaded AI-based voice command software. For the first time, ever, she's able to send and read messages, and communicate independently with her friends. It doesn't do everything, but I'm sitting here listening to her exchange voice texts and Skype calls with family and friends, all by herself.

And my wife's hip replacement went exceedingly well, and Barb's coming home on Saturday. Yipee!

Thanks, Matt. Barb wanted an extra day of PT, and so did the physical therapists, but the doctor wants her moving around a lot more than she can in hospital, and he doesn't want her catching anything there, either.

As for Corradina, she had a wonderful time and everyone understands her situation. Now I just have to stop her from doing this every day. I'll try to divert her to leaving text messages, which she can now dictate, and the responses are read back to her.

Once teenagers get a taste of social media (texting, pictures and such as well), it's hard for them not to spend too much time on it!

Speedy recovery for Barb!

Good call to get her out of the germ magnet. Sounds like things are on the upswing.

Thanks, Wes! Two more PT sessions today before she comes home, and then she gets at-home PT for a while.
