Tortex is a model Dunlop makes. If you have a grey pick, do they have texture on them? If so, those are Dunlop Nylon, a pick I used for years. If I still really played acoustic I would be using those for acoustic.

You are correct, I am using the Dunlop Nylon .73mm. To be honest, I need a pick with more grip. Do these Tortex picks you speak of by Dunlop really have great grip? I think I will pick some up the next time I am at Guitar Center. —MooreLoud.com - A tribute to Dick Dale. New Singles "Finish Line" and "Paradiso" on Bandcamp and website. |

They aren't textured like the Nylon, but the pick isn't as polished/flat as most picks. I usually wet my fingers a little bit and that gives a tortex/delrin pick a lot of grip. |

I recently settled on THE WEDGE 0.60 by Dunlop Tortex. It's the orange ones. I use 11 ish string gauges and tend to strum chords very hard so a thicker pick is not for me. |

Has anyone ever used either a Dunlop Gator Grip or a Dunlop Nylon Max Grip pick? I am thinking about giving one of those a shot. I need more grip! —MooreLoud.com - A tribute to Dick Dale. New Singles "Finish Line" and "Paradiso" on Bandcamp and website. Last edited: Oct 08, 2014 11:47:47 |

I tried some Gator Grip picks at one point, but didn't like 'em all that much. They have some sort of powder coating that provides extra grip at first, but it wears off really quickly. The Tortex picks have better grip in my opinion, but they don't have the right feel for me. Haven't tried the Nylon max grips yet, but the surface texture looks similar to that of the Jazz III max grip and I found those a big improvement over the standard Jazz III's. —"Duck Tape is like The Force: it has a light side and a dark side and it holds the universe together" https://www.facebook.com/pages/Speedball-JR/151771678181829?fref=ts |

I recently reached into my pick dispenser/ash tray and ended up with an older Fender Medium instead of my usual signature dunlop celluloid pick and Golly........did they ever get that right..........still my favorite Cheers, http://www.facebook.com/CrazyAcesMusic |

I recently discovered that Fender is now making a pick the same size/shape as the Dunlop Jazz III, but in "traditional tort" celluloid. It's their "551" style, which is widely available online, but not so much in local stores (around here anyway). I've bought them in Heavy and Medium and I'm happy! |

I've come to realize that I like a thinner, slightly more flexible pick. I just started using Dunlop Nylon Max Grip .60mm, and I find it easier to do fast picking than with a thicker, harder pick. However, I have read that a thicker pick is better for fast tremolo style picking. I was using a .73 (non max grip), but it seemed just slightly more difficult to pick fast. For the record, I play a lot of Dick Dale. What are your thoughts on this? —MooreLoud.com - A tribute to Dick Dale. New Singles "Finish Line" and "Paradiso" on Bandcamp and website. I found the .73 nylon Dunlops difficult to play fast with. The .88's fit my playing better while still flexible enough to give a nice 'click'. |

Hey Gilette, thanks for the (indirect) recommendation of .88's. I went and bought some, and while I am still getting used to them, I really like the way they play and feel. —MooreLoud.com - A tribute to Dick Dale. New Singles "Finish Line" and "Paradiso" on Bandcamp and website. |

Inspired by SaschaReynders signature line I see 2 posts up Quoted here if/when his sig changes: Can't say I've tried that, although have often thought about trying "a Marty Tippens". Not cause I think I can play anything like that amazing dude, but he uses a thumb pick with fantastic results. —Fady El Mirage @ ReverbNation |

Not bad really. I used it on for about 4 hours, took a break, finally took it off and later that evening I worked on the same song (with lots of treb picking) and I was playing better. I mean without the duct tape. Seems like I've got the pick positioned better, less slippage, not so aggressive of a monkey grip. Now part of it is getting familiar with the song but I am not a fast player and I tell you, running through the song this morning it was getting downright easy. I'm keeping my duct-tape pick for workouts. Like a punchin bag! —Da Vinci Flinglestein, The Syndicate of Surf on YouTube |
