With all due respect, I can't disagree more. Their "pro" line of guitars (AVRI '62 Stratocaster for instance let alone the really expensive custom shop stuff) are absolutely professional instruments that I will put up against any "pro line" guitar. I'm actually grateful that there are so many models of the stratocaster available. I can get exactly what I want without having to make the changes myself. If somebody absolutely has to have a tone control on the bridge pickup, they can buy a strat that has that feature. If they are rational people, they won't buy that strat Shock

But, then again, I dig relics too Laughing

Well, I believe that, as Jack said, you're dead wrong about that. I don't have much experience with vintage offsets, but Jack, for example has owned multiple vintage and new offsets, and I believe he'll tell you that they're a lot closer than you think. As I already mentioned, my own experience with reissue Strats is that they're as good or better than the '50s and '60s models that I've played, yep. There are many more people on SG101 that have plenty of experience with both vintage and reissue models that have raved about the reissues, at least the US-made ones (the consensus seems to be that the Japanese ones are pretty good for the money, but not as close to the vintage ones).

What matters ultimately is this: a LOT of great music, including a lot of surf music, has been recorded using reissue instruments, and the tones on much of that stuff are indistinguishable from the originals.

What about 30 or so models of Stratocasters?:)

Exactly what Ryan said. It's all about appealing to different customer demands. A Strat is used for MANY different styles of music, and Fender tries to sell a model for all the people out there, as well as many different budgets. Again, for us traditionalists, there are the guitars we want, so why care about the other models?

I didn't want to discuss economy but I see your point
and I agree with you.

Yay! Thumbs Up

I just wanted to say that their

I really don't think you're right about that.

Oh yes about my Made in Japan Jazzmaster let me remind you that in
1995. there was no Made in USA Jazzmaster.

yes, I know - my point was simply is that even you at some point chose to buy a new(er) Fender rather than a vintage one - either because the vintage one was difficult to find or expensive. Aren't you glad that Fender was there at least making the Japanese version of it? Imagine if they hadn't - first of all, lot of people that wanted a Jazzmaster would have had to buy a vintage, leaving even fewer for you and driving up the price even further. Would you have been able to get a vintage one eventually in the absence of having the Japanese substitutes? It seems much less likely. Whatever their sins were, the MIJ offsets did scratch the itch for a lot of people, keeping the vintage prices down.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion but that
statement is beyond ludicrous.

OK let's change it to: none of their new models of Jazzmasters are comparable to old. I played 3 different vintage Jazzmasters and all of them are sounding way better than AVRI or whatever the name is.
But as you said this is just my opinion based on my experience.

OK:) You have to explain this to me because I don't get it:)

Two things, though: 1) a guitar in a store is rarely set up well (especially a problem with the offsets, which are very sensitive to a good set up), and certainly not to your specifications, in addition to the fact that the strings are usually old and dead; 2) a vintage instrument will be different by the virtue of being old: the wood has dried out, the electronics have mellowed out, and the neck has often been 'worn in' after decades of use. So, it may not be a fair comparison. Finally, not all guitars are equal, even when made at the same time. Some will always be better than others, possessing a bit of magic that others lack.

Well, when my four year old son pushes a relic onto the concrete, I won't feel nearly as distressed as if it were a pristine finished guitar Laughing

I don't own a relic, but I do like the look of some (not all) of them. My guitars are reliced by my drummer tripping over them while he sets up on stage No

I can tell you a few stories about Fender dealer in Croatia:) Maybe this is why I don't like new Fenders... Anyway, as I probably said few stupid things I go back in lurking mode:)

That's quite possible, actually. I thought about that, too.

Anyway, as I probably said few stupid things I go back in lurking mode:)

You really don't have to. All of us here have said our share of stupid things at one time or another. Smile It's almost a rite of passage. And anyway, you were just talking about your own experiences, which I'm sure are different in Croatia than they are here in the US.

As an infrequent poster, and mainly lurker, this "nuts and bolts" thread has certainly gained some substance. Lots of good stuff here!
Dalibor, please don't go back to lurking. I've enjoyed reading your perspectives, as well as everyone else in this thread.

I second this. This has been a really good thread.

I agree. If I or anyone else who'd posted something stupid went into hiding, there would very few people posting here.

I'm another lurker and infrequent poster here, but cannot avoid saying I enjoyed this thread soooo much lately, expecially since Dalibor came in: I have to say I agree with much of what he said, maybe it's because I live in Italy, so close to Croatia ??? Smile and maybe it's also because I'm absolutely crazy for the Bambi Molesters Wink
Hey Dalibor, you didn't say anything stupid in my opinion, it's just a matter of different points of view, so please don't disappear now !!! Smile
