Re: Search feature really blows

Marty Tippens (mctippens) - 05 Feb 2005 18:26:33

Now why didn't I word it that way? Yes, of course, Bombora.net is apparently
free for the joining.

Why does Surfguitar101 need to change format? There is a perfectly good
"modern" style
BB at Bombora.net. If people want to use it they would, the fact that it
remains unpopular
is all the polling you need.
It's not broken, don't fix it.

Yeah, I find it strange that other related genres like
garage/rock'n'roll and tiki/exotica have very popular web forums
while surf music has not... Strange, isn't it?

Hey Klas,
I thought the Bombora sight was a surf sight. But if not, this is a perfect
opportunity for you to start a surf forum in that style. You could invite
people from this list, Cowabunga and Reverborama and I'm sure you'd get many
takers.

My thought was that it would be really cool if we could get all the
people from SurfGuitar101, Cowabunga and Reverborama to join up under
the same roof. I'm also convinced that a web forum would be more
suitable for attracting new people to the surf music scene. Oh well...

Hey Klas,
With such obvious conviction as you have for the web forum, I don't understand
why you don't set it up. It sounds like you want everyone to go at once but
that's not how any of these lists started. Ya gotta start small. Maybe only a
few will join at first, but so what? It'll pick up members over time and if it's
all that you say, it could become very popular.

Klas,
I'm with you. I also think a forum would be a great idea. It would
certainly be more organized, and we'd have a better search feature.

One thing that just occurred to me was that if I (or someone else)
hosted a web forum, you would have to be sensitive to disk space. Yahoo
has stored all 10,000 of our messages from day one. I'm not sure if
there is a limit, there probably is. But I don't think I could do that
on a web forum, given that I am already using 1/2 my space for all the
photos and videos. So you would have a great search feature, but you
could only search back say 1 year instead of 4 or 5.
Anyway, it looks like most people want to stay with Yahoo Groups for the
time being. Apparently I was the only guy who wanted to try a web forum
first. But there already is that Bombora forum, so those who want that
can go over there.
So let's end this thread for now and get back to talking about surf
music and guitars.
I was going to put out an announcement about our "compilation CD", but I
got hit with the flu, and it's back to bed for me. Maybe tomorrow.
Thanks for all your suggestions, BTW.

Yeah I remember when Brian started up that other
board...he made me a mod on it and even I forgot it
existed after a few days...sorry about that, Brian.
Is it even still up? Btw, I'm happy with Yahoo
groups.
