Help me find a cheap Surf Guitar

Brian Neal (xarxas) - 12 Oct 2004 20:09:39

Yeah, I recall Richard had one but sold it. Richard? However, we have talked
about these guitars before, search the archives...
I also think it sounds promising; it does have MIA Jaguar pickups, but oddly
enough the scale length is 24.75", which is generally associated with
Gibsons and not Fenders.
I'm not a huge fan of the Mustang body, but the racing stripe is cool! I do
think it's cool Fender is playing around with these classic designs and
trying "sort of new", "sort of old" ideas.

You guys remember correctly. I've always been a
proponent of this guitar even though I sold mine. I
got enough money for it to buy myself a Yamaha SGV 800
and had a good bit left over to go toward buying my
Vibrosonic.
They're over $500 new, which gets you into MIJ Jaguar
and Jazzmaster territory price-wise. They have the
typical Mexican finish and build with Mexican
Deluxe/Vintage series hardware. They have American
Vintage Series Jaguar pickups, a Stratocaster bridge
and a Jaguar switchplate which turns the individual
pups on and off. Mine sounded great and was real
solid. If you can find one on eBay I'd say go for it.
It'll definitely give you the sound, but most people
would rather go ahead and go for a real Jaguar or
Jazzmaster.
