Bill,
saying that Mosrites were a mistake isn't really fair. To say you don't like
them and prefer other makes is all part of freedom of choice and personal
preference.
I tend to like the thin neck and fret spacing, I find Fenders very uncomfortable
to play. So I could say I wouldn't pay $500 bucks for a good Fender, and that's
OK, however does that mean that Fender guitars were all a mistake? I think not.
One fact remains, Like Harley Davidsons, Mosrites hold their value, if not
appreciate.

Lets see, I don't think your missing anything. Every Mosrite I've
played has been like that. If you could bend the strings on
those "frets" you'd get stuck on the closest string because they are
so damn close together!(Nokie managed) Sorry to all the Mosrite
lovers out there, but I think for the most part those guitars really
are a mistake, I wouldn't pay more than 500 bucks for one. Some of
the vintage ones are really trashy. At the Chicago Music Exchange
(the rape exchange) they have tons of vintage ones, and he asks 6-7
grand for most of them, compared to his 2-3 grand Jaguars they are
in terrible physical and playability shape. I'd still take one at a
decent price just because they sound so GOOD!

Ha! I don't really care how much the guitar appreciates, if it's
unplayable it's worthless to me. I've known and know about 5 or 6
guys who have or had Mosrites, vintage and various reissues, and
they all seem to complain about the same issues, so I'm just
rehashing what I've heard to a poster who asked. Even Marty says
they have a lot of the wrong features, and we hardly agree :)
Play whatever you want, I have nothing against Mosrites, and think
they sound excellent, I'm just weary of the quality of a majority of
the vintage ones I've seen, and the modern ones I've played liked
light strings and I can't play anything less than 12-54.
So if a "good" '62 Jag or Jazzmaster come your way for about 500
bucks, please let me know!

lol, I dont use 11's on my American mosrites, that was only on the japanese
reissues as the nut could not handle anything heavier(strings would hang up,
and the low E would not even fit in the slot and would sit above the zero
fret). I currently use ernie ball not even slinkys(12-56) I did have 13's on
it but alas I got tired of buying individual strings to make the set, so
these do the job.
