Well, I haven't seen too many people besides Ivan bring them up in
this ongoing dialogue, but the Surf Coasters are definitely worth
checking out ... it'll just be expensive.
"Surf Attack," "Surfside Village" and "Surfdelic" are absolute must-
owns, and "L'Espirit" is up there as well.
Or, at the very least, just flip a coin between their two best-
ofs, "Fly Up" and "Misirlou." The second one's newer, but it repeats
a few songs from the first one.
Dave Myers and the Surftones' "Hangin' Twenty" is a great album, or
just get his best-of, which has that album in its entirety plus a
single.
The Rare Surf Vol. 3 split with Johnny Fortune and Johnny Barakat &
the Vestells is also a great purchase.
Someone else mentioned the "Surf Legends and Rumors" comp--that one's
well worth hunting down, and so is "Toes on the Nose." In each case
not every track is amazing, but there's like 30 on each--the great
definitely outweighs the bad. (Almost a dozen Eddie & the Showmen
tunes and the original version of "Cecilia Ann" are reason enough to
order both.)
