I should keep this one secret but I can't resist sharing it.
Try this: Take a harmonic minor scale and raise the 4th degree by a
half step ; instead of 1-2-b3-4-5-b6-7, play 1-2-b3-#4-b6-7. This
will give you a 'snake charmer' type scale
