Re: DD Q & A, shit that went down on Sat at Jim Pash benefit

halibutrick - 19 Apr 2005 12:17:09

That reminds me of a Ventures story. The Halibuts were opening for
them at teh Palomino in LA. They asked to see our setlist and crossed
out about 5 songs they didn't want us to play. And, of course, they
didn't play any of those songs.
But on that same night, Don Wilson did something I'll never forget.
After our set, as we were tearing down and they were setting up, the
manager of the club wasn't going to let us leave our stuff anywhere in
the club - not even the dressing rooms (I have no idea why. He was
really being a jerk). I was driving an open back truck so I had
nowhere to put the gear and of course wanted to stay to see the
Ventures. Don saw my pleading with the mgr and came up to find out
what the problem was. He grabbed one of his road crew guys, told the
mgr to open up the side door, had them back this big equipment truck
to the door. Told me to put the gear in the truck, they'll lock it up,
and grab one of the road guys when I needed to get to it.
Very cool.

it! So, y'all think it'd be cool to play "Walk Don't Run" at an event
where you knew The Ventures would be playing after your band?
