Re: [SurfGuitar101] Re: Mosrites

Marty Tippens (mctippens) - 22 Feb 2005 18:54:39

Yeah, I suspect that's Tim Wilson, Don's son who is behind the stopping of the
sale of the Japanese gray market Ventures models on Ebay. He's doing it 'cause
he wants the Wilson Bros models to be the exclusive Ventures models.
There is argument as to whether Semie actually put Ventures logos on his '80's
Mosrites. He wanted to and advertised that way initially but the Ventures put
the nix on it. I have one of the '80's models but the logo was put on in later
years. I don't know how myrareguitars is getting away with the sale of gray
market Ventures models. The Ventures were successful in stopping the practice in
Japan.

I've listed a couple of "Excellent 65" models on ebay and been sent
threatening letters from The Ventures law firm and had the auctions
pulled off by ebay. I was told that ANYTHING with The Ventures logo
except original Mosrites built in the '60s are illegal.....however,
when I asked the law firm for a list of legitimate serial numbers
for the Ventures models, they said that they had them but wouldn't
release them to anyone. I currently have one of the Mosrites that E.
Roman sells.....funny how as soon as he became the "exclusive"
distributor of those models the price jumped $600. Mike at
myrareguitars.com still has pictures of Mosrites for sale that he
says were built by Semie Mosely in the 80s that have the Ventures
logo on them......perhaps his being located in Canada keeps The
Ventures Police from bothering him? --- In, "supertwangreverb"
