I picked up the WHYs at the airport this morning and they are in my garage warming up right now. Here's a little YouTube greeting from the band:Konichiwa!
I hope you can come out to the shows!
Tonight- 19 Broadway in Fairfax. So it's a little rainy... they flew in from Japan for you!

Opening for The WHYs at the Los Angeles show will be David Arnson, Marty Tippens, Adrien Anthony and myself playing Insect, Pollo and cover tunes...
The 19 Broadway in Fairfax show has a down beat start time of 8:30. So thats kinda cool 'cause it's a work night.

I'm bummed that I've got to miss the Hotel Utah show ,
but I've got to travel back to Georgia and South Carolina through
the middle of next week. However, I plan to fly into L.A. on the
trip back, and catch the El Segundo show for this fabulous Surf
Super Group and the Whys.

I'm totally bummed that I won't see the debut of the fabulous
TomorrowMen. I promise I be at the next show, hell or high
water. I know you're gonna knock 'em dead, Danny!

I'll look forward to seeing you, Warren, and ? at the Purple Orchid.
I really appreciate the offer of the ride to San Diego, but I have to
decline, as I have to bail Friday morning. Next time, I'll try to spend
more time down there, and catch more shows. I feel fortunate that
I could work the Purple Orchid show into the schedule. See you
there....

I too will see whoever's at the Purple Orchid, but will have to miss the San Diego show (more thanx to BTD for the offer of a ride) as I'll be down in SoCal visiting my parents and can't spend the bulk of my time at shows (as much as I'd like to - duty calls!). Should be fun and it'll certainly be great to say hi again to Surf Impresario Extrordinare Ferenc!

Grrrrr,
It's looking like due to work commitments, and the fact that The Lava Rats accepted a show Sunday from 2:30 to 5:00, I will also be outta luck.
Danny, I know you'll have everyone floored.

From Matt Kora:
WHYS?
BECAUSE!!!!
I just saw The Whys in Fairfax, CA, and I cannot suggest strongly enough for anyone interested in female fronted instro surf to check out one of their CA tour shows this weekend or next. Or instro surf bands, period.
They did mostly original songs, w/some covers ("CHICKS
DO DICK" or "CHICKS PLAY DICK"-Surf Beat/Miserlou) .
The obvious comparison would be the Neptunas, but that
would be grossly unfair to both bands. A better
analogy would be an alternative universe version of
the duo Petty Booka, only instead of old timey songs
done w/uke's, think LOUD shreddin' instro surf.
I admit to a bias to bands from Japan. Maybe because they always seem to put on an entertaining show, maybe because they always seem to be excellent players, or maybe because I find them just damned interesting (ask any band from here that has gone to Japan to play) from a curiosity aspect. Sure, you can listen to CD's, maybe even hear one of their live radio performances upcoming (Fri, Nov 3 on KFJC around 3pm PST, www.kfjc.org; or on West Coast Live Sat, Nov 4, 10am PST-but probably only one or two songs, www.wcl.org for a station in your area-possibly at another time than live).
Check out their MySpace site, or the site Ferenc of Pollo del Mar set up for them (or their Japanese site for you bilingual types). I'm planning on doing a BigTikiDude, 100% of tour including Fresno next Wed (Fresno on a Wed night????) and the finale in Vegas (at a venue whose speciality drink is called "ass juice"). If only that super duper Sunday afternoon BBQ show at the Liquid Kitty were still happening the following day, I could die a happy camper (that would be Lawndale,DoubleNaug htSpyCar, Insect Surfers, Boardwalkers, Kelp), but no, THAT show got cancelled (or should I say "rescheduled" for Jan 07'). Oh well, just another reason to stick around for 2007....
on the Why-Highway,

Great show at The Blank Club in San Jose last night.... just about 100 in attendance. All the old gang was there. Got home at 3, it's 7:30 now, off to the West Coast Live Radio show if a few minutes. Sacramento tonight.
Did anybody listen to the KFJC broadcast yesterday?

I enjoyed this show a lot. Blank Club San Jose 11/3/06
Surf Cinema honing their craft, with their entertaining barrage of classic Surf-tinged pop video.
Pollo Del Mar doing a select set of "Best Of".
The Whys succeeded in charming the audience with the same kind of "Joi de Surf" that the Surf Coasters brought in years past. The fronting females have the sex-appeal, Japanese charm and the randomly choreographed moves, but also have the talents. With a solid drummer, the band was both tight and raw-edged, which put them squarely in the class of capable garage Surf acts. I just can't get enough of female bass players who do glissandos!
I believe Dandy Don Vigeant did the venue-specific poster for The Blank show and KFJC did the co-sponsoring. See the remaining shows because you will come away smiling!
