This thread would be more interesting if it was about Surf bands that covered Metal tunes.

Name two good ones. I dare ya.

That was excessively violent and completely unnecessary. I loved it.

My point exactly. I'd love to see Surf bands take more chances with their cover song material and play arrangements of popular (and contemporary) songs that aren't all from the Surf genre and/or have been already done by Surf bands of the 60's.

By all means start your own thread.Sorry my approach to a thread isn't as interesting as you like SURFmole.
Surf came before Heavy Metal therefore I think it should be more likely that metal bands would cover a surf/instro song.

So you're saying that there aren't any post-metal Surf bands in existence? Sad

I wasn't saying your _thread _wasn't interesting. What I was trying to say is that it would be much more interesting hearing Surf bands do Metal cover tunes in a Surf style than listening to Metal versions of Surf songs. What makes a Surf song Metal? You add a distortion pedal and play the same arrangement as the original? I think it would require more creativity to take a Metal song and make it work with a Surf arrangement and clean guitars.

Sorry if I hijacked your thread though brandonio....carry on!

Actualllllyyyyyy...... I figured out how to hold the pick for tremelo picking from a James Hetfield interview on the subject. So regarding "Surf" technique in my little one-person world, Metal came before Surf.

What day is Surf Rock's birthday? Looks like Surf Rock and I was born the same year. Maybe we are both Libras?

The closest thing I can think of is 13 Crimson Ghosts, doing the 'fits. Not metal of course. To go even further off-topic, there should a theme for the next SG101 compilation, and metal/punk covers done surf could be interesting. Maybe Ivan would do Number of the Beast with some reverb if we beg him! Twisted Evil

Really either direction would work as far as I'm concerned.I totally agree surf bands covering heavy metal tunes could work out as well.
If someone has more examples like The Typhoons covering Slayer's "South Of Heaven" by all means mention them here.I have a pretty open mind.I agree with what your saying SURFmole, really I am.

My old band, Surf Report, covered and recorded the first couple of minutes worth of Disposable Heroes on our LavaRockReverb album.

Dragstrip cover BOC' s Don't Fear the Reaper on their Reaction Time disc in 1996
The East Coast Tremors cover Judas Priest Breakin' the Law on the East Coast Fury disc.
Gein and the Graverobbers have a couple songs where they throw in direct riffs from Iron Maiden but damned if I remember the titles off the top of my head. A whole song would be cool.
There are a few more but those are the ones I remember off the top of my head.

Oh, yeah. Forgot. We also did The Trooper on the Inferno CD.

though not totally amazing.
I always liked when Surf report did a few metal songs.
the Trooper and Livin after Midnite were not completely horrible.

You're too kind Jeff. I'll take "Not completely Horrible" over "So hideous I wept" any day of the week Wink

I'd absolutely submit some solo material toward that project!

Not metal, but my old band Squid Vicious recorded a cover of Pink Floyd's Astronomy Domine. One day it'll see the light of day (or dark of night).

If anybody hasn't heard yet S.C.O.T.S. have released a version of Pink Floyd's "Lucifer Sam" along with Nirvana's "Come As You Are" on a split 45 with Los Straitjackets doing "Smells Like Teen Spirit" a song most of us has heard before. I just ordered my copy from Spin Out Records.Lucifer Sam is probably my favorite Floyd tune of all time, so this should be pretty cool.

but I am interested in hearing the SCOTS PF cover.

I almost forgot The Los Straitjackets/S.C.O.T.S. split 45 will also come with a digital download with the record.I'm assuming this is a actual CD single. It's $12.00 shipping and handling.
