Just got the cd today. It is AMAZING!! Pick it up if you dont have it yet. These renditions of Morricone's masterpieces are awesome!

On a sad note, I ordered some other stuff but forgot to put in the coupon code so i didnt get the free MOAM air freshner! :'( oh well, i guess i need to buy more :p

Brian
Sean is reporting he has the last 10 copies of the great compilation "For a Few Guitars More". Pick this up if you don't have it!

After listening to the RFB show, I had to buy it and got lucky, it was on german ebay for 12 euros shipped.

Get it, it's awesome !

I don't remember if these guys were mentioned or not, but Calexico makes some excellent spaghetti westernish music, with a good mix of instrumentals and vocal numbers.

Albums to check out:

Hot Rail
The Black Light
98-99 Road Map
Convict Pool
Spoke

Uma, You picked the best ones as far as I'm concerned.Their later albums have been rather lame, but they had some amazing work that's for sure.

Yeah, their earlier albums were absolutely epic. Glowing Heart of the World (off the Road Map album) is an AMAZING spaghetti western song. I've seen them open their shows with that song back in the day, before they went folk-pop on us. Its one of my fave Calexico tunes by far.

And The Black Light is like a soundtrack to a Tarrantino movie. Its perfect music to play while you're driving on a desert road to nowhere.

I wish they would go back to those roots. Their last 3 albums have been big let-downs for me Sad

I haven't heard their more recent stuff, so I've been spared the disappointment. Razz

I'd still check their newer albums out. Calexico is my favorite band since I've seen them on the Black light tour. And it is still my favorite band because they change a lot. If you watch them live they always have a good mix between old songs and new ones. The only album I don't really like entirely is "garden ruin".
Check out their tour CD "toolbox" , it's instrumentals only ;)

Lovin' this topic, this music, the links, y'all's depth of knowledge on the subject, yes, it's all good... No wonder you made this "best of" material. Awesome, guys and gals.

Hi!
I'm a total newbie here. Just found the site because I was trying to identify a song i heard the other night. This seems to be just the right forum and thread to post this question in... Smile

Last night i was out at a bar here in Stockholm, Sweden and I heard this song that I liked but never got around to ask the name of it or the band for that matter. It was surf guitars, kind of up-tempo, I think instrumental and it had gun shot sounds in the background throughout the whole song and I'm talking lot's of them. The intro to The good, the bad and the ugly has the same gun shots in it but this song sampled about ten times more of them.

I realize that it's a very vague description that I'm posting but it's worth a try right? Anyone has any idea what song this could be?

Thx /Vanja

You are probably refering to "guns don't argue" from the Penetrators from the cd "for a few guitars more", referenced above. If you like that check out Radio Free Bakersfeild show 105 and others hosted by "Big Tiki Dude" for that killer Spag West sound.

"Guns don't argue" was great! But the song I'm looking for had a lot more gun shot samples in it. Almost like listening to a gunfire sample track but with surf guitars in between.

Thanks for the quick respond. Will continue to listen to the radioprogram linked to, great one!

It's probably something off the One Million Dollar Record "Spaghetti" volumes.

There's a shot or two at the start of One Gun is All You Need (Sonic Chris Fesker's original version available in the SG101 CD of a couple years back).

Since you heard it here in Stockholm, I couldn't help but thinking of our "Pioneer Trail Surf" although it doesn't have the gun shots throughout the whole song, it does have plenty of surf guitars! Not really a spaghetti western type of song though but more in the traditional American western movie style. Anyway, here's a short sample of it:

Hmmm... after listening to the whole song on Spotify I realise it isn't the one I heard since that one ended up in a gun fight without music in the end. But anyway, this one's good enough for what I wanted it for. Thanks again
