Not a band or record, but Dalibor just shared this and it's too good to keep to myself. Masters at play!

This is Noel. Reverb's at maximum an' I'm givin' 'er all she's got.

Hi, did you realize that Charlie Hunter made a surf(ish) record?

It's called We two kings

deezer link

Christmas songs Smile

original compositions (low-level demo stuff /out of tune, etc) myStuff not my best, but i don't like to be in a musician community without anything to show

Something(s) you may want to check out: "Stereophonic Spacesounds Unlimited" (Anything by them will do). Also, anything by Robert Drasnin. He has "Voo-Doo" (50's) & also "Voo-Doo 2" (2007) both on the Dionysus label.

The Sadies sprinkle some instrumental tunes through out their various albums that tend to be pretty tasty. I also like Yo La Tengo. Huevo Rancheros is good (the band not the food).

2012-2013: FILTHY POLAROIDS

Instrumental on the rock heavier side
Joe Stump - neoclassical shred "Night of the living shred"...is awesome
Tamas Szekeres - from rock to classical.

I am not obsolete, I am RETRO.... Cool

Not only a favorite non-surf instro band but one of my favorite records of any kind -

Bill S._______

HELLDIVER on Facebook

Jinx Jones!
He sings a lot too but also does some great instrumentals. I felt foolish when I learned Baja and The messiah will return were covers, but he more than does them justice.

Another Jinx instro:

Chuck Hughes and Lance Romance, can't go wrong. Heard one of their songs used on a car commercial, recently.

And the Rev.!

Love Tractor were from Athens, GA during the 80's along with REM, B-52s, Pylon etc.

Their first two alums were all instrumental.

Their bass player Armistead is a friend of mine and helped out a LOT in transporting Messer Chups this summer to Richmond VA.

They had a reunion down in Athens this summer and the whole thing is out there on the youtube.

Atomic Mosquitos
Bug music for bug people is here!

Some of you might dig my non-surf instrumental band, Math Patrol, we're a bass/keys/drums trio, I play bass. We started calling ourselves "math-soul" early on, and live we get comparisons to Yes, DJ Shadow, Battles and Man...Or Astro-Man? That company is way over our heads, but it maybe gives an idea what we sound like.

Our new record is going to have much better production than the one on bandcamp, here are two live videos that I feel represent us better than the album. First is one song, the second is a full set.

The Spoils - FB - RN
Second Saturday Surf in Austin, TX - FB

Resurrecting an old thread here because I rediscovered an old instrumental love of mine by accident. I am a German teacher as some of you know and I was talking with my class about Neue Deutsche Welle (German New Wave), which I grew up with. Most people are familiar with the English versions of Da Da Da by Trio, der Kommissar by Falco, and Major Tom by Peter Schilling, but there was SO MUCH MORE. So, I brought up a group that I hadn't thought of in a while, Rheingold and their hit Dreiklangsdimensionen (I had a huge crush on their keyboard player as she was really cute). Anyway, I remembered that they did quite a few instrumentals. My favorite, which was titled Rheingold Extra, is below.

Matt "tha Kat" Lentz
Skippy and the Skipjacks: 2018-
Skippyandtheskipjacks.net
https://www.facebook.com/skippyandtheskipjacks
Otto and the Ottomans: 2014-2015
The Coconauts surf band: 2009-2014
www.theamazingcoconauts.com
Group Captain and the Mandrakes 2013
http://www.gcmband.com/
The Surfside IV: 2002-2005, 2008-2009
the Del-Vamps: 1992-1999, 2006-2007
http://www.dblcrown.com/delvamps.html

This is interesting Matt, I never heard the Rheingold instrumentals before. The transparency and steadyness is similar to the 70s solo works of Michael Rother, formerly guitarist of Kraftwerk, Harmonia and Neu!, the latter bands being far more influential outside than inside of Germany, while his solo stuff was quite successful here and little known anywhere else. So it may have been a direct influence on Rheingold.

Los Apollos - cinematic surf music trio (Berlin)
"Postcards from the Scrapyard" Vol. 1, 2 & 3 NOW available on various platforms!
"Chaos at the Lobster Lounge" available as LP and download on Surf Cookie Records!

Khruangbin is a pretty good instrumental band

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khruangbin

I definitely hear some similarities in Rother's guitar work! Thank you for posting that! I have something new and exciting to listen to now!

Reading about some 70s/80s German acts Peter Orloff Orchestra came to my mind. Peter Orloff was best known as a German pop (schlager) singer, but apparently he also produced and/or arranged instrumentals.

Link Wray

Mickey Baker, The Wildest Guitar
Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet (all of their albums)
Jeff Beck, Blow By Blow, Wired, There and Back, Guitar Shop, (and others)
James Wilsey, el dorado

All of these are electric guitar based instrumentals.
