I loved that record, I wore out the grooves on that LP back then. Great band!
The Barracuda's were cool. Another one of my favorite surf vocals from the 80's was my homeboys the Slickee Boys "When I go to the Beach"

In the Daytonas, we did both instros and vocals. Our only completed video was a vocal number called "Ready, Set, Go!" from our 1993 debut album. Check out a free 30 second preview clip of it here. The short clip doesn't make much sense but the full video is actually quite funny. I tried to upload the latter to YouTube but because of a copy protection, it wasn't possible.

The Tornadoes (the U.S. one) did an awesome vocal surf song called the Phantom Surfer -- I think it´s a prime example of the instrumental surf style and tone with singing over it.
Check out Yuzo Kayama´s Yozora No Hoshi. Very surfy.

well, Ive read alot about UY, never heard any of their tracks afaik, so i googled up some mp3's - those vocals don't sound surf at all to me, 60's garage on the cleaner side of the scale, In the songs I listened to (only a handful, I admit) I hear more Animals and Mamma's and the pappa's kind of influences than surf, actually, in arrangement, vocal lines, and sometimes in the sound as well. Phil Dirt said this:
"The surf tracks from these guys were/are among the hottest modern/trad covers around. ... Instrumentally, most of the tracks are very good to great. Vocally, they may play with a surf sound, but they seem more a frat band than a surf band."
not trying to pick a fight, I liked what I heard and will check out more for sure. Just wondering what defines vocal surf (outside the beach boys) ... I just figured, if I want to hear vocal songs Ill put on some garage or something, but perhaps these things are really close togetehr... overlapping?
