Hi everybody!

I'm new to this forum.
Let me start by complimenting this excellent website!
Truely wonderful, and perfect for us instromaniacs Very Happy

I would also like to use this opportunity to promote my
one man surf project.

I've been playing the surf-guitar for about fifteen years,
and gradually learned to play all the other instruments.

After I moved from Norway to Iceland a couple of years ago,
it soon became clear that if I wanted to continue playing surf,
it had to be by myself Smile

So here it is, in all it's glory!
Just follow the link that's (hopefully) attached below,
and if you have a myspace-profile yourself,
be shure to add me!

Thanks!

Sounds great burt.
Im in the same boat as you except guitar is the most recent instrument ive picked up and im not quite good enough with it to bother recording any songs yet.
Its nice to hear a good example of someone achieving my goal.

Very nice indeed! Welcome!

Good stuff.
Welcome to SG101.
I think there are several one man bands here among us'ns.
So you aren't so alone after all!

"We're gonna draw a little bit of everybody's blood 'cause we're gonna find out who's THE THING"

Hi, again Smile

Thank you for the kind words!

About the recording process:

I usually start with a clicktrack and a guide guitar.
I record the drums with a set of AKG drum-mics
(2xOH, BD, SN, TIM, TOM).
Then I record the guitars and bass, listening to the drums without the clicktrack.

I use a KORG D888 hard disc recorder to record the instruments.
It has eight mic-preamps and records directly to WAV, which can be imported to my computer via USB.

I edit the material in Cubase SX, before rendering it down to four tracks: Drums L, drums R, bass and guitar.
This is being sent to a Teac A-3340
4 track reel to reel tape recorder, to add some analog warmth.
Then I record the four tracks from the tape machine back into the D888, before importing the files into Cubase again.

Pew! Tedious process, but it's worth it!

Finally I record the organ and SFX if needed.

BTW: Only "Kanaloa" on my myspace-site has been through this process, and can be considered finished mixwise.
The tape-recorder has added some "mud" that glues everything together, and I particullary like the effect it has on the drums.

None of the songs have been mastered yet,
does anyone here have any experience with Reverbmasters?

About "Horror Surf" ebow:

No, I don't use an ebow on this tune.

For the fuzztone I use a VOX Tonebender stomp box.
I try to keep the amp settings as flat as possible, so the amp doesn't color the sound to much.
I also find it useful to turn the amp down, thus controlling most of the sound with the fuzzbox.

Once again, thank you for the feedback.
I'm finally home Very Happy

Burt welcome to the forum, it is indeed 'home' for all us instro surf junkies with a computer. Your recordings are a real inspiration.

On a side note, and without getting political, how are things in Iceland? We hear dire reports about the collapse of your economy and it's effect on the people.

I'll be visiting your page often.
And welcome. Cheers

I am enjoying your tunes! Awesome tone!

The more I listen, the more I like it. Count me in as another fan! Welcome to SG 101, and thanks for sharing your music (and methods).
