This could be a totally separate thread, but anyone have a personal list of must-hear 50's guitar albums in the same vein?

Not sure if this is the right vein, but here's a few of mine:

Besides the other Billy Mure albums of the same period, I would also recommend to check out Jimmie Haskell's 1958 Countdown album and Vincent Bell's The Soundtronic Guitar of Vincent Bell.

I just finished listening to the fantastic Joe Meek produced I Hear A New World album from 1959 which actually also would somewhat fit into that vein. The album was never released back then but some of the album songs were later also recorded under different titles by The Outlaws in the early 60's.

Thanks Klas, good suggestions guys!

I went back and looked at a few pages of album covers, the music that is liked on the board has WAY too many fonts on their album covers. Doesn't take away from the music though!

good observation! it's one of the sad things about digital media and design: those who can, invariably will. Remember all that awful "word art" and "clip arts" appearing all over everywhere just a few years back? And all those awful sound clips that make the rounds...

I've been noticing how many Jaguars are on First-Wave album photographs. Doesn't take away from the music either. Roar!

I see a lot of bad design at work... Photoshop, Microsoft Publisher, Powerpoint... the design mediums of choice...

Morphball check out Merle Travis with Joe Maphis instro albums, Buddy Merril, Billy Boyd, and Roy Lanham.

To hear this sort of vibe I have been checking out a lot of Pedal Steel records. Jimmy Day and Leon Mcauliffe are the most recent I found I like a lot.

The early sixties country swing instro guys that play Jazzmasters are all pretty interesting. Jackie Phelps, Roy Clarke, Roy Lanham, etc.

I'm checking out Jimmie Haskell now. Thanks Klas. Ruhar that is pretty much the stack next to one of my stereos all last year.
