I'm in not one, but TWO Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute bands:
www.second-helping.com
www.crawdaddyband.com
In addition I play in a Hendrix tribute:
www.hendrixshow.com
As an antidote of sorts to all that I LOVE playing traditional surf in Hang Daddy
www.hangdaddy.com
As if that's not enough abuse, I'm trying to put together a killer Motown/R&B/Funk/Soul band with a horn section.
Basically, I love guitar music that's "blues based", but is not straight blues. I'll give you an example: I become absolutely manic when I hear Deep Purple play Lazy from Made In Japan, but SRV and Clapton bore me to death. What Hendrix, Zeppelin and Purple did was like blues on nitro methane.
I look at surf music the same way, blues based but branched out into a sonically more interesting and exciting direction. Southern rock, same thing. Hendrix & Trower, same thing. Funk & Soul, same thing. Blues based, but not blues.
But I fall asleep with traditional blues. Why is that, Doc?

Horror metal!
Prolly not your thing but...www.sinisterfate.com
I started getting into surf stuff because, although there is a horror surf genre, it is TOTALLY different than the other stuff I play.

I play shitty punk music. You know, that fast annoying crap with screaming.
Same here. That and doom - Sabbath, Pentagram, Trouble, Cathedral, Sleep, etc. (Yes, I'm well aware the two genres go together like peanut butter and roadkill.)

Do you have Sleep's Jerusalem album? You know that one riff...? Witch's S/T record is one that I like a lot. Black Mountain too.

Which one? Ha ha ha.
Witch's S/T record is one that I like a lot.
Same here - especially "Seer" and "Black Saint."
Black Mountain too.
I like their first one a lot ("Druganaut" rules) but haven't picked up the new one yet.

Usually electronica or rockabilly. Break out the synth here and there and go to town on some phat beats. I'm lame.

I play guitar, keys and sing with an "oldies" band (The Blond Boys) that does 60's pop music which i love and have a great time. You know, "Wooly Bully", "Louie Louie", the Beatles, the Stones, the Byrds, Dave Clark Five, Beau Brummels etc. We mostly do conventions and weddings and "theme" shows all over the state of Hawaii.
LOL! That's pretty much what our band is doing, after all, that's where the money is, with the Corporate and Private Parties, etc. We STILL haven't downloaded anymore tunes on our Website, but we like to stay with the "Safe Stuff".....Beatles, Stones, Eagles, Billy Joel, Foreigner, Boston, Tom Petty, Travelin Wilburys, Billy Squire, and a bunch of 60's Tunes already on our Website. What do they call it??.........Oh yeah, "Classic Rock" .

having live in the chelsea hotel since 1982 i've had the pleasuse of playing with a lot of different people and different styles over the year form classical to punk rock i have writing a few classical piano pieces as well as play vox organ on some of dee dee ramones last recording,i've all so worked with jerry nolan, johnny thunders and jocko pastorious in the early 80's i played rockabilly dress up rthm guitar with the rock cats the poor boys, string busters and few other note worthy rockabilly guys untill i was able to find people who knew what surf was and out of the stringbuster (81) formed the tidal waves (84) the dragsters (87) and then the supertones (88) the fact of the matter is good music is good music and enjoy it for what it is and not for what you think it should be, i've all ways love it when music catchs me of guard...kinda like shane macgowans music dose so simple but so very moving that time stands still............check out the dee dee ramones"please kill me" video on youtube.....................that me on organ..........

We'll toss in a bit of Rockabilly now and then. What's tough for us right now is that Paul our rhythm player is trying to teach us to sing harmony (he fronted a Beach Boys tribute band in the past)...learning curve is steep but fun...

Funny to me to see their name pop up because they are buddies of mine ~ and an excellent band! I'd think a lot of surf fans would like their music - even though it isn't surf.
