Well, Google "I Love You" and see how many people have a song by that name. You can't copywrite a song title...i don't think. "Pier Pressure" is a GREAT song by Tiesco Del Ray but he doesn't own the rights to that title...only the song itself. I wrote a song called "Baby Please" and it took me a half hour to find it on the Borders computer list of songs because there were sooooo many of 'em. If i could sue them all....i'd move to Huntington Beach so we could play at the Museum!!! Then i'd move right back to Kauai. Very Happy

"Shootin' the Pier" (Lively Ones/Satan's Pilgrims/etc.) is really Freddie King's "San-Ho-Zay" ... I kinda like how it's come full circle - the Lively Ones' producer (or label) slaps a different title on the Freddie King song, and now that title gets appropriated for something else.

That was excessively violent and completely unnecessary. I loved it.

I just changed the name of my 2008 comp song to something called "Shootin' the Pier" ...I hope that doesn't bother anyone??? Razz Razz Razz

I thought of a great new name this morning... "Sunset Surfing", but I found that the Challengers already used it. Rob Jones suggested that I just modify my title. Maybe I can call it "Shootin' The Pier While Drinking a Beer" Very Happy

"Shootin' The Pier, Drink Enough Beer, Next Thing You Know, The Mermaids Appear".

HAH! (A little long for a title, I guess).

Good job mom! But PJ and Eddie have used that title, maybe you should call it "Squid Car" Wink Razz (Just kidding for anyone who hasn't been paying attention Razz )

Hey when Mitch, Big Ray and I did Squad Car as a three piece acoustic group, we renamed it "Security Guard Car" for obvious reasons..................ed

Traditional........speak softly and play through a big blonde amp. Did I mention that I still like big blonde amps?

Nothing wrong with tweaks in my book. I'd much rather hear another player's variation of a tune than listen to a tribute band playing the original note for note. The only exception that comes to mind right now is Wipeout. I love Jim Fuller's simple bridge, when I hear someone else making it fancy, I just think,"that's not Wipeout". But that's just me.

my fav part of the tune is a little past the half way point to about 3/4 of the way through (if that makes any sense). sort of a surf/jazz feel to the composition.

Number 14 on the playlist is "Corvair 500" by my group, the Aquatudes. It's kind of a "test track" to get our recording project off the ground. When we get our studio sound down, we plan to record about a dozen originals. This version is a little rough around the edges, but is pretty close to our live sound. As for the title, my mom used to drive a '65 metallic green 2-door hardtop.

Things are progressing very well. Check out the SG101 theme song that several members put together! Way cool!!!!

I know we rarely seem to discuss these tracks. But, any thoughts so far? I really liked norcalhodad's Munsters Theme. We should have a listening party in IRC when the songs get put on archive.org. Everyone will hit the play button at the same time. Smile

I wish more people had tried writing their own songs. Doing a cover version just begs for comparison to the originals. That said, it's better to do a cover than to not do a song at all. Keep it up!

Brian recently got me turned on to IRC and I must say, that sounds like fun.

Good observation. We put a public domain tune on there for legal reasons and since our originals wound up being released. Next year, we'll go and record a new tune for this project.

it would be interesting to hear the results if you gave everyone the same chord progression and a time limit of three minutes for an original tune.

That sounds like fun, but why only 3 minutes? How about a week?
