Just ordered the new Guitar Mood 2 comp and if it's anything like the now out of print first volume, it's gonna be great.

Record description:

A completely unanticipated follow up to the long ago issued wacko eclectic instrumental comp of '60s rock bands from various corners of the world. Amazing examples of local cultures of Turkey, Japan, Finland, Peru, Colombia (and the exotic lands of England and the U.S.) colliding with the guitar instrumental craze, with some longhair music (Beethoven), chicha/cumbia, and half-faux/half-real African influences thrown in. Must be heard to be believed.

I have it, unfortunately I don't like it as much as the first, but I still pull it out every now and then

Storm Surge of Reverb: Surf & Instro Radio

A bit disappointing to hear that but of the few tracks I've heard from the new one, I think at least the Silüetler tune I posted above is great and there's also a Takeshi Terauchi track on it that I don't think I already have.

Here's the tracklist:

Side A

  1. Takeshi Terauchi & The Bunnys - "Beethoven Symphony no 5"
  2. Los Orientales De Paramonga - "Lobos Al Escape"
  3. Vic Flick - "Zulu Maid" (with John Barry)
  4. Los Siderals - "Virgenes Del Sol"
  5. Siluetler - "Lorke Lorke"
  6. Pedro Jairo Garces Y Su Guitarra Electrica - "Mosaico: La Danza De La Chiva, El Huerfanto, Rio Manzanares"
  7. Siluetler - "Kasik Havasi"

Side B

  1. Pastel Six - "Strange Ghost"
  2. Takeshi Terauchi & The Bunnys - "Kokkyo No Machi (Border Town)"
  3. Los Belkings - "Sentimientos"
  4. Afrosound - "El Ventarron"
  5. The Blazers - "Metaskulla"
  6. Bill Collins - "Border Beat"
  7. Haramiler - "Adanali"
  8. Manzanita Y Su Conjunto - "El Hueleguiso"

And for anyone who would like to try and track down the now out of print first volume, here's what it looks like:

image

Tracklist:

Side A

TAKESHI TERAUCHI & His BLUE JEANS (Japan) - "Tsugaru Jongara Bushi"
Los RELAMPAGOS (Spain) - "Limosna De Amores"
The VENTURES (USA) - "Damaged Goods"
Les GUITARES (France) - "Spatial Slow"
TAKESHI TERAUCHI & His BLUE JEANS (Japan) - "Rising Guitar"
The TRONICS (USA) - "The Big Scroungy"
Los RELAMPAGOS (Spain) - "Hay Quien Dice De Jaen"
Les FRANGINS (Belgium) - "Changhai"

Side B

LOS RELAMPAGOS (Spain) - "Nit De Llampecs"
The JOKERS (Belgium) - "Moscow Guitar"
ELECTRIC JOHNNY & His SKYROCKETS (Holland) - "Johnny On His Strings"
TAKESHI TERAUCHI & His BLUE JEANS (Japan) - "Sentimental Guitar"
The TIMEBREAKERS (Holland) - "Java Guitar"
Les GUITARES (France) - "Galaxy"

The Shockwave! - "Death Race"
This is one of those CDs that just doesn't want to get ejected from the car stereo, I've been listening to it over and over for a few weeks now. The Shockwave! are from Helsinki, Finland, but have nothing to do with rautalanka, they are huge fans of trad surf and mine the Gary Usher / Richie Podolar vein. Everything is nice and moist, Mosrite guitars driving the sound. The songwriting is inventive, finding new riffs and melodies inside the trad framework. Track 13, "The Adventurer" is mesmerizing. My other favorite track is the bonus one, "Mandchurian Space Reggae" which has a dub style mix. The CD is about half originals, half covers- with some interesting rearrangements like their take on Syd Barret era Pink Floyd called "Lucifer Sam's Surf". Another fave that seems to be popping up a lot recently is "Force of Gravity." All in all, pretty satisfying; I hope Sean picks it up for the Double Crown Catalog, I think it's pretty damn good!

Thanks for the tip, Ferenc! Looks like they've recently discovered Soundcloud and have posted half-a-dozen cuts. Unfortunately, "The Adventurer" and "Mandchurian Space Reggae" haven't made it up there (yet?). What is there sounds pretty nice - Thanks again for the tip!

I agree on The Shockwave CD. I just received it the other day, and listened to it 3 times on my roundtrip to work yesterday. Very trad sound, which I like. Hard to belive they aren't from California.

Brave New Surf.
Frankie and the Pool Boys, by Ferenc Dobronyi.
Sandstorm, by The Madiera.

This is Noel. Reverb's at maximum an' I'm givin' 'er all she's got.

Recent acquisitions:

Really digging this comp - you can tell it's a labor of love.

image

Haven't gotten to this one yet, but I have pretty high hopes for it.

image

Good sleazy R&B/surf. Great saxophone.

image

More of the same, and I mean that in the best way possible. Definitely one of the best trad bands around, IMO.

That was excessively violent and completely unnecessary. I loved it.

Checking the mailbox daily, BNS should be here any day. Looking forward to that.

Nice grab on El Ray, Cap'n! I managed to find both Tick... Tick... Tick... and Shoot From The Hip on CD not long after I found SG101. I've quite enjoyed both of them. I need to get Chasing Ray - wish there were CD's (all I seem to find is digital download.)

I was shocked to find this at the record store the other day so I picked it up. I'm liking it so far. Also I found Reverb Sun by the Insect Surfers which I had no idea was released on vinyl.

Hot Summer Comes Again!
Let's Go Beach! Let's Go Beach!

We've got close to 30 copies on the way from Finland, along with two other recent Gas/Goofin' surf/instro releases, and re-stocks of a few other discs.

It's the "Presenting Jackie & The Cedrics" 10" from Norton - it didn't show up for me either, but I copied/pasted the image link, and was able to see the image that way for some reason.

Just hours after I posted here I went to my PO Box and found the three new Gas/Goofin' CD's by The Shockwave!, The Vision, and The Dangermen! Just put on the Shockwave CD and it's amazing - a band that should have been on the Brave New Surf CD if we had known about 'em earlier. Great stuff.

Unfortunately, I just got the three review copies - the CD's that I can actually sell won't be here for another week or two (and no, you can't have these - these are MINE!) LOL

Chasing Ray was a PITA to find. I shipped one from Europe, but this is a cheaper (and faster option)
