Hello,
There will be a surf show held at the Southgate House in Newport Kentucky on May 10th to Honor Rockin' Robert. Rockin' Robert has been doing the Rockin' & Surfin' show for over 26 years(longer that Phil Dirt). Robert has been having health problems and this show is a tribute to his devotion and contribution to Surf Rock. The bands will be playing in the Junies Lounge. Show starts at 9PM and ends at 1AM. Admission is free!
http://www.southgatehouse.com/
Bands that will be playing are:
Roger & The Wraybands - Chicago

Believe me we don't get shows like this often in Ohio, Indiana or Kentucky so come out to Honor Rockin' Robert and enjoy the music!
Thanks

Is Newport close to the Cincinnati airport in Kentucky?

Yes! Newport is fairly close to the airport, probably 15 minutes. If you need a ride I might be able to get arrange for someone to pick you up. Also if you are seriously thinking about flying check out the rates to Dayton, OH & Louisville, KY or Lexington ,KY. CVG(Greater Cincinnati International Airport)is one of the most expensive airports in the nation. Sometimes hundreds more than going to Dayton or Louisville both are about an hour away.

I'm looking at driving up but our drummer (Martha, my wife) has a schedule conflict that might be a deal killer for me. If there is anyway possible to be there, I will (with CDs!!).
Thanks for all the info on this.

Thanks

Thanks Guy. I would really love to see this show and support Rockin' Robert. He's a great supporter of surf music!! As of this morning, it looks like I won't be able to make it but I will keep you posted in case something changes.
There are a lot of people bummed about the collapse of the North Alabama Spring Surf Shindig show. I'm still feeling Tiki Tena's pain over the loss of air fare for the show!
As for the CDs, email me and I'll send you some.
Go Rockin' Robert... Surf On !!

Hello all...I've been a longtime lurker but finally jumped on board. For
anyone who doesn't know about Rockin Robert, I can't imagine anyone on this planet having more of a devoted life to surf and instro music. I've had the pleasure to listen to his radio show for many years and have to say, Robert is the reason I became a devoted reborn surf fan and musician. For over 25 years, every Saturday night on volunteer 88.3 WAIF FM, the Surf, Hot Rod, Space, Spy, Christmas Surf, Halloween Spook and anything else that falls into this style would hit the airwaves, because of Robert. I called many times to ask about a song I heard or tell him what great music he's playing. I would pull my car over and call Robert from a phone booth to find out the name of a song. I donated to the station, just hoping it wouldn't go under. He's played over 250 versions of Ghost Rider in the Sky! Rockin Robert has got to be one of the greatest archivists of this genre and well as surf music scholar!! This man is incredible!!! This show is way over due for a man who has kept this music alive! This should be a great time at a great place. Hats off to Rockin Robert!!!!! TheAmpFibian

Hey AmpFibian,
You are right Robert has been dedicated to Instrumental & Surf music since the first wave. He has been a big influence on me and many others in the Cincinnati area. I hope a lot of folks turn out for the show. I think it will be the biggest surf event in the Cincinnati area in a long time. I look forward to seeing you there.
Thanks

Thanks to Mid West Surf Guy,
The AmpFibians have been asked to join the
list of bands playing the Surf Explosion at The Southgate House.
Although
we have played together many times, as The Southgate Boys (non-surf but still worth listening to)... this will be our first chance to show up as a surf band. I'm honored to be part of this. I've listened to Rockin' Robert for many years and became Surf-I-Fied. I think we can hold our own.
Surf Shows are few and far between in this area so I hope this will be the start of a new surf scene in Cincinnati!!! The SURF capitol of the Mid-West!!!
