yeah but not all jokes are funny!! seriously, I am still thrilled that FINALLY the goof-balls in charge of this fiasco of a Hall of Fame had the good sense to include them (and also one of my British Invasion faves, THE DAVE CLARK 5) Unsteady Freddie — |

Absolutely! I live about 35 minutes from the Shlock Hall and I usually try to ignore it. I did have the pleasure of going last summer with Adrien Anthony (CHUM) when he was in town to see the Clash exhibit. That was pretty cool, except that there was too much Mick Jones stuff and not enough Strummer! I'm going to actually go to the Rock Hall on Monday for the Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. The actual ceremony is in NYC (of course), but the Hall of Fame is staying open late and they're going to have the ceremony broadcast on large screens scattered about the Hall. Admission is really cheap, too. Something like $5. We'll see if it's worth it ... |

(In Don Wilson's own words at a Ventures concert I attended in Las Vegas on 10-21-06, he said WDR was second to "Itsy-bitsy-teenie-weenie-yellow polka dot bikini on the charts and not as quoted below) The Ventures went into the studio in 1959 with an idea for a new single they had first heard on Chet Atkins' Hi Fi in Focus LP. Released on Blue Horizon in 1960, the single "Walk-Don't Run" became a big local hit after being aired as a news lead-in on a Seattle radio station (thanks to a friend with connections). In an ironic twist, Dolton Records came calling and licensed the single for national distribution; by summer 1960, it had risen to number two in the charts, behind only "It's Now or Never" by Elvis Presley. After Howie Johnson replaced Moore on drums, the Ventures began recording their debut album, unsurprisingly titled after their hit single. |

In January I was walking around the NAMM show with Wilson Bros. owner Tim Wilson (Don's son) when we came to the booth that was selling those pop out picks. He had never seen them before and thought they were pretty cool. Tim's been to the show for a couple of years and this was the first time he'd gotten away from the Wilson Bros. booth to see what else was at the show. He was having as much fun as the rest of us with all the new suff. —There is Surf east of Sepulveda. |

Just curious. Is your "Ugh! Why???" in reference to The Ventures, The Hall of Fame, or the fact that they are being inducted? ~Rip-Tide~ |
