I wanna mention this here, but at the same time please don't let this
sway people from continuing to donate.
Paul(aka Colt Surf) here on SG101 is donating a Fender AVRI Stratocaster
for the raffle at the SG101 convention.
Its to be only raffled off to a member of SG101,
and all the proceeds from the tix sales, will go to Brian and SG101.
So that is incentive for everyone on here to buy raffle tix for that.
Because the money goes to a great cause,
SG101!
Thanks Paul,
and Brian.

WOAH! That's killer!!! Paul is THA MAN! Incredibly generous with those raffle guitars year in and year out.
Gonna have a "member prior to" date restriction?

Paul, that is very generous of you to donate the strat for this year's 2012 convention. Jeff, count me in.

Thanks to TVTheWiredTurtle, Surfgitar, Onslow_Beach, & Stokemon for donating this month! As the month is winding down we are still a bit short. If you've never kicked in a few bucks before please consider doing so. You can also help fund the site by buying some stickers.
BTW, I have so far resisted running ads (e.g. from Google) but I feel like a schmuck asking for money periodically. How would people feel about having some Google ads on the site? They'd be text only, no images / banners, and knowing Google they would target our interests by crawling the pages and seeing what we are talking about. I'm not so sure I want to do that. My intent isn't to make money on the site, but again, I feel lame asking people to contribute. I don't know how much Google ads would bring in either.

Brian, I completely understand and sympathize with your dilemma. For years, one of the most difficult aspects of trying to put out Tiki Magazine has been wrangling the capital needed simply to cover costs. It's always been my opinion that it's better to just be honest, humble and ask for what is needed than succumb to having to rely on 'the man.' Just my $.02.
Having said that...everyone please take a moment and consider how much enjoyment SG101 has brought you over the years. I know times are tough, but even $5 could make a huge difference.

Brian, have you considered putting a donate meter, or status bar of some kind on the home page? I think more people might donate more regularly if it could be more easily seen. I know that's true for me.

Thanks everyone for the donations and sticker purchases today!
websurfer, I've thought about that, but didn't want to be too "in your face" about it.

What about setting up a monthly donation via paypal? 20 people putting in $5 a month would cover costs nicely.

I just bought 10 stickers. I am going to go on a public restroom, SG101-stickering spree.

Donate-o-meter somewhere around "Current Polls" on the side bar wouldn't offen me in any way, shape or form.

Brian, that's very cool! Nobody should be at all offended and we can check how you are doing when the home page loads.

On this page is a form that you can fill out, then click the shiny yellow "Donate" button. It is all handled by PayPal. You don't have to have a PayPal account, they also accept major credit cards.
I'm not sure how a monthly subscription would work. I'll look into it.

We'll see how it pans out month-to-month, but it sure looks like having the donation meter right there on the home page is working like a charm!

Yes, it was a good idea, it seems. We get to the goal and I don't have to bug anyone.

That is great, I like seeing it there.
If people donate over the 100% mark,
does the total roll over to fill in the following month?
