Ok, until I can get a Wiki going, I'll use the forums. So you want to chat with fellow SG101'ers in our new IRC server? Well, you need an IRC client program. There are dozens of these things floating around, but here I will describe how to get set up with ChatZilla. The reason I picked it is because it is a FireFox add-on, and I know Firefox exists for both Mac and PC users. I would imagine that you should be able to figure out another IRC client from these instructions also.
Okay, to start, visit https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/16
Click the "Install Now" button. It should download and install. You will then be prompted to restart your browser. Do it!
Now you can fire up ChatZilla after restarting your browser by going to the Firefox Tools menu and selecting ChatZilla. You should see something like this:
In the bottom text box, type the following command exactly as shown. Yes, you need that first forward slash!!!
/server irc.surfguitar101.com 6667 morereverb
Hit return, and then you should connect and see something like this:
Now use the button to the left of where you typed that command to change your IRC nickname. Type your SG101 username here.
Now you need to "change channels". In the ChatZilla menu, pick IRC / Join Channel.
Select the ShallowEnd Channel. Then you should be in the chat room!
Now right click on the URL irc://irc.surfguitar101.com/ShallowEnd,needpass at the top of the window and select "Open This Channel At Startup".
Now you should be all set. In the future when you launch ChatZilla it will automatically try to connect and prompt you for the password. The password is currently morereverb.
Comments welcome.

For some reason I can't change my name. It keeps saying: ShaunNecro erroneous nickname.
edit:
Nevermind, I got it to work.
edit edit:
Ok, for some reason it won't let me use my full name. Is it alright if I'm just Shaun?

Yeah, sorry about that. Currently the nickname length can't be more than 9 letters. I will change that tonight, so it should not be a problem tomorrow.

I'm already liking this new "chat room" thing. It's like that show where everybody knows your name, except George Wendt isn't there.... That guy creeps me out.

Yep, the chat is great. Thanks for hooking that up Brian. Yet another reason why I can't get any work done

I did it!
And no one is here.
Same here. But it works!

Well, I've been on the IRC channel a few times, whether it's lunchtime (USA west coast) or later evening (USA west coast) and no-one's there..
...Anyway, I'll keep checking.. and DO be aware folks, IRC can become seriously habit-forming I started on IRC back in '93 or so and although I haven't done much recently, it resulted in 4 trips to the USA to visit my IRC friends over 4 years

--- End of WHOIS information for bot.
