just kidding, it is a great strat sound for sure! actually that video made me change my opinion about maple necks. (Actually this one and the one form the cocktail preachers playing bikini drag, which is interesting cause a thread about bikini drag also just popped up. synergy? Shocked )

and that is thru a cyber twin amp.

I shot that with John in my garage unrehearsed in one take. The amp is actually a Fender Deluxe 90 with a 1964 Fender reverb tank & an American 57 reissue Strat. John also plays with The Eliminators. For the gear heads, this should be proof it not the arrow but the indian.

sorry, i saw this was a newer vid, and just skimmed through the topics on the first page to see if i can find anything that could possibly contain this.

No worries on the dupe post. I spoke to John & relayed the comments to him. He was very flattered & said it's not the fiddle, its the fiddler.

Funny this particular video was mentioned again - I was just talking about it the other day as the PERFECT Strat surf sound - and how if I could get that sound from a strat, I'd be happy.

As for the fiddle, not the fiddler - I'm positive it's not just the fiddle - John Benton is a great player. I learned a bunch of Jag settings just by watching him play in the garage one afternoon.

maybe it's the garage - HBKahuna should rent it out for surf recording - the ideal surf sound.

exactly!! i though MY strat sounded good...his actually sounds closer to a jag to me, but whatever. almost too clear through reverb for a strat...

I'm proud to say, all that gear belongs to me. I'm sad to say it does not sound that way in my hands. That garage has had some talent play in it, thats for sure. It sucks to be me. Oh, reverb tank setting for that, dwell-3.2,
mixer-7, tone-7....

Maybe it's all those unused gardening tools & other crud that create the sound in the garage? Question Question Question Question

... that video made me change my opinion about maple necks...

Maple necks rule, they have an excellent bright tone quality!.

But, I agree with the sentiment that the player (rather than the gear) is, by far, the most important ingredient!

actually, apart from that the rig& player sound great, how did you record it? just the camera's mic? is it a semi-pro camera or just a handheld DV? eitherway, it really records great, my camera doesnt get anywhere near the sound of your videos.

WR,

It was recorded using a Sony HDR-FX7 camera & a Rode stereo X/Y condenser mic on top of the camera. The secret to the sound may be the surfboard hanging just above the garden tools. That & I manually adjust the sound level so it peaks at about 80% on the meter.

I prefer this guy playing with his old Withe Showman....

the sound of his old showman..and his hands is Wouaou!!

Great guitar man..and great Style!!!
