Considering the rate at which I polished off Absinthe across Europe, I think I can handle it in moderation her in my home city.
However, this might help explain when I start posting replies to topics that don't exist...

I just saw bottles of the stuff in Ensenada last week at about half that price. But like many things in Mexico. Buyer Beware.

I haven't seen what it's going for at stores in SF yet, but on eabsinthe.com you can get it pretty cheap shipped from England.
One way or another, it WILL be mine... now I just need to get a proper absinthe spoon/glass set.

are you kidding?!
oh i'm so happy. i was reading a while back that some company was coming up and making a type without thujone, or without much....
i love absinthe. anything you have to make a ritual out of is interesting to me.
that and any alcohol based on herbs, or using herb coctails typically agrees with me very much. chartreuse, gin, and absinthe are some of my favs.

Bill, was that the same European trip that you were trusted by parents with the lives of their high school students? I'm going to go check the dictionary to make sure your picture is no where near the definition of "responsible".
Also, make sure you have some the next time the Rats practice.

Wow, I was paying around $9 a bottle for really good Absinthe in the Czech Republic, I wonder what it would cost to get it shipped here? I don't know though, I personally think it's pretty over-rated. I never saw any green fairies. Seriously though, some of the stuff I picked up over there was pretty tasty, I'll post some photos later.

I took a shot of that stuff once and it freakin' BURNED. I'm assuming the whole ritual with the sugar cube is to curb this?

Definitely, at 170-proof and more, you have to be slightly crazy to drink the stuff straight. When I first opened the bottle I had in Europe, I took a swig off the top and it damn near took my breath away. Even if you don't have the proper hardware for the sugarcube/fire deal, you should at least cut it with a little sugar and water.

off topic kinda,
I found out about a shot called a Von Zipper from the grog Log,
its half oz. of Barenyager (Honey Liquor)(from grrrrmany ) and half oz. of Stroh 80 (butterscotch rum) (from Austria) with a squeeze of Lime in it. Its Tasty but man its strong and takes your breath away. after you regain your composure you go wow thats mighty tasty.
try it. if you can find them.
