I only keep the crayons if I like the color.........

Any color looks good in the right context.

The Exotic Guitar of Kahuna Kawentzmann

You can get the boy out of the Keynes era, but you can’t get the Keynes era out of the boy.

Seems to be settling in very well! Shocked Very Happy Very Happy

Its a lovely guitar, sounds and plays just great-I still dont sound like Daddy-O Grande though! Wink
I have a slight issue with a flaw on the neck, but i'll deal with that. Smile (Minor finishing flaw-just needs flattening, and its somewhere where my hands dont go! Very Happy )

2012-2013: FILTHY POLAROIDS

That Tele looks sweet. Is that a Baja Tele. That is on my wish list for 2008.

Enjoy your new Galaxie. I got one back in October and I really like mine. I purchased a sunburst. For the money it is a great surf guitar.

Sean

Thanks guys.

@jp, yep, its a baja tele, that thing is a journey into tone! 5 position selector, and a tone limiter type filter/freq cut off in the volume. Great guitar. Looks like crap, but its a great guitar! (mind you, it matches our bass-players rare long horn jazzmaster to a tee!, and a matching set of guitars is 20% of a good band straight away!) Shocked Shocked Shocked Wink Very Happy

I strongly agree with that statement.

Off of the Dipinto topic, but I think it's the pickguard that makes the tele look a bit off. I'd put a black guard on it personally. I have played the baja several times at the store and Just love the pickups.

The first guitarist of the Nelsonics had the same DiPinto that you have and he loved it. I hope that you enjoy yours.

They were being sold at major discounts a few years ago through one of the big internet vendors, MF or somebody... I got one for $399 or something like that, with the Eddie Angel style toggle switch, rather than push buttons pickup selectors.

They're kinda funny guitars, definitely not great hardware or electronics, and the description of the sound as kinda "generic" is about right too... I wouldn't get one to be my only guitar, and if you're going to pay the full price (which I think is around $800 or so), I think there's better choices, but they're kinda fun, in their own way.

My music teacher can get great jazz tones out of it, surprisingly... Not my cup of tea, but it says something about their versatility (or my teacher's talent)

got a picture of the Eddie Angel toggle switch on his galaxy? Is that his only mod?

I've really liked the ones I've played. And I've heard them enough times live and in person playing some pretty heavy surf music to know how good they sound. I like 'em a lot.

This is Noel. Reverb's at maximum an' I'm givin' 'er all she's got.

I'm fishing for good picts of Eddie Angel's Galaxy and these toggle switches he's put on his

Tavo, here ya go...

What's even more telling, however, are photos of what the guys choose to play when they're not on stage with LSJ. Or, from before they inked the Dipinto deal.

Maybe I got lucky, but I REALLY like mine...Seafoam Green, I couldn't do the sparkly thing, lol - Chris DiPinto was a pleasure to deal with...guitar came set up perfectly, a little Big Bends 'nut sauce' & zero tuning issues!
I have big hands, & the neck was just perfect for me....

Old thread, But if nothing else I think Los Starightjackets look WAY cooler all playing Dipintos!
As a side note, I have a Dipinto Los Staightjackets and a bunch of CS Strats and I play the Dipinto just as much as them.
image

I have a dipinto galaxy 4 with signatures from all the los straightjackets members on it.
I dont really play it. Its cool and I have used it live from time to time. Always gets comments.
For my tastes I find the neck a but slim and flat radius. Other will prefer this I appreciate.
The pickups do sound good, particularly bridge position alone and neck alone. The other positions not so much.
The silver sparkle/clear coat is veeerrrry thick poly. So if thin nitro is your thing then maybe not for you.
All in all a cool guitar

Glad this zombie thread got resurrected! Good for a few monkey-chuckles!

For all the old Dipinto owners out there with the funky super ugly Rickenbacker bridge, Tavo turned me on to this so you can use a normal bridge. https://www.ebay.com/itm/135020195620
Just came in the mail, when its installed I will add a picture.

I think I posted this warning elsewhere, but if you order the Winfield bridge, as of now you'll likely get 6/32" poles now and not the metric 4M (unless you happened to just get one out of old stock), which means the poles may or may not match the hole sizing on the bridge you are sticking on it.

The last time I ordered, Winfield retrofitted the baseplate with M4 poles for me which saved this ape some bananas, because all the Tru-Arcs I have are M4 drilled, I don't have any bridges that are 6/32" drilled.

My new Winfield bridge adapter came with 6-32 studs which are .138 (not 6/32 dia) So my Gretsch Compton bridges fit. Maybe a little loser than I want, but probably close enough.
Wish I knew I could have got 4mm when I ordered. Oh well.
If it ends up to lose I might pick up a Tone Pro roller bridge, being they have that little set screw you can lock down.

Bango your True Arc looks GREAT! How did the intonation come out?

Intonation is fantastic, zero problems. Using the Winfield allows some compensation because it's got slotted screw holes. I've got three Galaxies with Winfield plates and Tru-Arcs and it's my standard setup. That said, I just converted one (my fourth?) of my Winfield/Tru Arc guitars back to a stud mounted Graphtech conversion which I like a lot (I followed up with another Graphtech on my latest Galaxie, and the adjustable saddles just make it easier to get gig ready faster)

I have a ton of Galaxies, so the above is probably not making a ton of sense. Lol BANANAS!!
