Does the original recording of Pipeline utilize harmonic tremolo? You can plainly hear throbbing at the beginning before the music starts…
Was the effect used on the guitars or keyboard?

I just listened. To tell the truth I’ve never heard that sound when listening in the past. |

I would guess not. I think that effect was only available on the pro line of Fender amps and I don't think those guys had high end equipment when they recorded this. I think the tremolo is only on the Wurli and that was probably a 140, which has its own built-in tremolo. Maybe we're just hearing the latent noise of its amp and speaker at the start? |

Actually, here's a previous thread on the subject. Looks like it may have been a Wurliter 112. https://surfguitar101.com/forums/topic/30966/ So maybe they were running it to a separate amplifier and using the tremolo from that. Either way, it doesn't sound like harmonic tremolo to me. |

It was probably in the keyboard, and I doubt that they would want to have had two tremolos running at the same time. I would imagine that would be hard to synchronize. —The artist formerly known as: Synchro When Surf Guitar is outlawed only outlaws will play Surf Guitar. |

To my ears it sounds like harmonic tremolo when I listen to the stereo version where everything is a bit clearer... Like they ran the Wurlitzer through a separate amp. You can hear what sounds like harmonic tremolo on the lead guitar in "Wayward Nile" from their first album. —-Dire |
