Ya know, my father once said, "If I'd known at your age what I know now, I'd have set the world on fire."
Took me a long time to understand what the hell he meant. Somehow I think it's gonna take you guys even longer.
Toodle-oo!
Know what Unlunf, I'll just refer you to Schopenhauer's Eristische Dialektik oder die Kunst Recht zu behalten to show how that argument is not valid even if it's right. (and to not make the same mistake and in case your german isn't what it used to be, I'll summarize: relying on any kind of aspect of the messanger to render the message valid is unfair and invalid debating tactic. so is relying on your age, (undocumented) experience or your father.)

hey, i have a little problem, the fuse thing was sticking out so i was fiddling with it trying to get it back in and now the amp wont power on, is this something i could do myself or should i bring it to an amp tech to fix? i was going to save bringing it to an anp tech to get a general check up on once i go on vacation in a month or too, but it might be a good idea to get it out the way now
also what does the ground switch do?

The ground switch was useful back in the day when the US only had 2 prong outlets. While you are at your tech's, have him install a 3 prong plug for ya. Be safe!

In that case the ground switch is probably not even hooked up.

I don't entirely understand what you mean? If there's a fuse in the use holder, adn the fuse isn't blown and it still wont power up, how to proceed really depends on whether you know what you are doing.
eitherway, the fuse is there for a reason, never mess with it, don t even touch it with the amp plugged in. that beig said, since it's a newly bought amp, have you checked the fuse for correct size, type and so on?

that's always a smart thing to do. I'd be interested in what a tech asks for a check up in the States?

Hey guys well I have had my bassman for a few months I had it serviced ,new tubes nos tone stacks, caps the works and backdated to AA864 and I have gigged with it many times and up until this saturday of places for this to happen @ a show half way through my set I noticed the decrease of volume and in thinking it was my guitar volume, nop that was untouched, speakers no they are new webers and how do I know the speakers work, I had to use The 'Verb's bandmaster, so anyways any ideas of why my volume would decrease, it's the first time it happened and also the next day I plugged my bassman and played for about an 1 and the volume did not decrease it stayed at where I always have it at, very strange????
is it power tubes??
pre amp tubes??
a cap???
output trans??

...also what does the ground switch do?
...back in the olden days of two-prong plugs on all the eqiuipment, the ground switch helped in these ways:
- it helped reduce humming
- it helped prevent unwanted shocks (ie: microphone shocks on the lips, getting shocked by other guitar players...etc.)
- it helped to make sure all your gear was "in-phase" as far as mains power goes (ie: your reverb unit, amp etc)...again helps prevent noise, shocks and possible damage.
if you have a three prong plug, your ground switch might be non-functional.

I recently had the DaveBassman looked at by the tech at Mojave Amps: he charged US $65 for an inspection and diagnosis (the "bench fee), and tube socket tighten-up.

... I noticed the decrease of volume and in thinking it was my guitar volume...
could it be your ears?
sounds like you guys are playing at a fairly high sound level ("8" on the Bassman is sort of loud)
otherwise, I've never experienced this problem...perhaps the power rectifier is going out???

you mean Solid State Rectifier right???
yes...solid state rectifier is what I was meaning...maybe if it's going out, you might get a "sag" in power levels (and volume levels) ...but, I am no amp tech...also, maybe power tubes...
it's an odd problem, I have never experienced it before...
maybe your local amp tech dude will have a clue?
good luck,

Yes my bassman head will be serviced next week and I also called the shop where it's going "Old town music" in down town Portland and the amp tech told me that it's possible that it could be the output trans but he would check the levels and test the output trans, he mentioned a bunch of other things but he said it's best for him to look at the guts and do the tests.
But I'll let you guys know what he finds out and what was replaced!
so other blackface/silverface/any other fender tube amp owners are informed of the "why" decrease of volume happens and what the fix is
and dp thanks for the feedback
