I know, it's an old thread, but since Brian brought it to the forefront, so to speak,, here goes.
I did what now?

"Back to the Beach" is one of the greatest movies ever made!!
At least that's what Paul The Pyronaut thinks.
I was once strapped to a chair in a hotel & forced to watch this movie against my will. The only thing that saved my life was the scene of DD & SRV playing. I laughed @ DD's hair for a half an hour, or at least until Pee Wee started singing "Surfin' Bird". Oh my God, why do I remember any of this?

The movie is total cheese - and awesome. How can you not love Frankie and Annette pulling up to the club with a marquee that reads "Dick Dale & at least two Del-Tones". Annette begs Frankie to go say hi to Dick, to which Frankie responds (remember the movie is from '87): "Honey, we could come back in year 2000 and say hi to Dick!" (or something to that effect, going strictly from memory here)
Or Frankie asking Dick if he could play "Venus" (Frankie's big hit from pre-beach-movie days of the early sixties), to which Dick replies: "You're asking ME, Dick Dale, if I can play "Venus"??" Frankie: "Yes." Dick: "No, but I can play this," and launches into "California Sun."
That still cracks me up. If you kinda know what Dick's all about, it rings very true.

I wonder if that was Dick's idea
Goob, how did they get the guys from Culture Club to play the music for Pee Wee's scene???

Bob, we're great friends and bandmates... but this may just drag us appart. I've been strapped down in the same hotel room and been forced to watch some pretty weird stuff (thanks Brett).
BUT seriously, I love this movie.... the girl from Full House in a bikini, Dick Dale with a perm, Pee Wee, and of course "Eric von Zipper." Its like people don't appreciate the talent and the energy that was put into making this movie.
Anyway... how about another great surfin' movie: Psycho Beach Party.

Wow, that was painful...although it did rather enjoy Pee Wee flying off on his magical surfboard.
My favorite part of the movie is Fishbone playing "Jamaica Ska". So wacky, it's awesome:

I liked it, big hair and all. Remember it was the '80's.
Which gets me to thinking about David Lee Roth and whether or not Eddie Van Halen ever did a 'surf' instro type of tune?
