This still has to be my all-time favorite Sunday Morning wake-up video. See if you can pick out Wally and the Beev.

Here's "Misirlou" from A Swingin' Affair: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZIU0RMV_II8 Could the bassist look any less interested? -Warren —That was excessively violent and completely unnecessary. I loved it. |

I love that solo, although I'm not a big fan of the tone of it. And one of those two men is the better guitarist and it shames me to admit it isn't the Dickster. The songs Stevie did in the mid-late 80s are amongst some of the worst sounding songs I've ever heard. |

This is just wrong, wrong, wrong. Surfsploitation in every way. Dick Dale in a bouffant and cheesy suit. SRV in padded shoulders. Dick mugging for the camera with hair band moves stolen from G&R. SRV wishing he were somewhere else other than a sound stage, faking licks while the recording plays in the monitors. Wally and the Beav as surf judges? The return of Annette and Frankie? They should have shot whoever pieced this slice of kitsch together. Still, I think Dick and SRV tore it up on this version of Pipeline ... second IMHO to The Chantays. |

The movie is actually good in one of those OMG this is terrible kind of ways. A lot of people probably felt the same way about those beach movies when they came out at the time. My problem with the song is they changed the guitar lick to a more plodding heavy rock style instead of the signature Chantays lick. —Site dude - S3 Agent #202 "It starts... when it begins" -- Ralf Kilauea |

That version of Pipeline is so disgusting it won't even hurt surf music.

Moved to Internet Videos forum. Because of the rampant YouTube comment spam, I just remembered we have this clip of DD doing a few bars of Pipeline before doing a few bars of Surf Beat: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4jrj1SfGzA0 —Site dude - S3 Agent #202 "It starts... when it begins" -- Ralf Kilauea |

I know, it's an old thread, but since Brian brought it to the forefront, so to speak,, here goes. I like the DD/SRV version of pipeline. In fact it is what brought me back to surf. Granted, it is not (TRADITIONAL) but it has a lot of energy. I could say the same thing about a lot of modern surf bands. As for the movie and video, damn folks it is all tongue and cheek. Joel |
