About 15 years ago, my folk/rock band got an outdoor gig on the platform of the Amtrak train station in Fullerton, CA. We were set up maybe 40 feet from the tracks. On one of the song's recordings, you can hear the dispatcher announce the arrival of a train over the P.A. —-John "...enjoy every sandwich." -Warren Zevon Fender Stratocaster American Pro II |

My band in the 90s played a bakery. Like a Panera or something. Not a highlight of my career, but it was all ages, and the kids loved us. |

Pyronauts played at a Baskin Robbins/31 flavors in Huntington Beach. I guess it's not that weird... maybe we played somewhere stranger... I can't remember. |

A couple of years ago the Spiratones played on the top deck of a double decker bus - we set up in the front third and the audience sat in the back. —The Spiratones - Instro/Surf from the rain-soaked north-northwest of England |

Over the years I've played some real doozies. Back in the 60's our rock band, "The Esquires" played for the grand opening of a mobile home dealership. In the late 90's The X-Rays (The Surge!'s original name) played several times at the Otherside Lounge here in Atlanta. This was the lesbian bar that was bombed by Eric Rudolph in 1997. These were actually pretty good shows. We were greeted with a very warm welcome as well as being treated well and their inside entertainment (which we caught between sets, female strippers) was pretty OK too. The most unusual show that we never played was in Dawsonville, GA at the "Hidden Valley Resort." At that time the Resort's owner and I happened to be working at the same company. He found our that I was in a band and twice offered us a chance to go play one of their on-site parties. The first time we booked it, then prior to the date, cancelled as our drummer had reservations about performing there. The second time we got the offer, I politely turned it down knowing that the drummer had issues with that. Hidden Valley Resort as you may have guessed by now was a "clothing optional" resort. Yep, this is me with a candy apple '65 Strat. The "stage" was about 8'X 8' ed Traditional........speak softly and play through a big blonde amp. Did I mention that I still like big blonde amps? |

My band played a bullring in Pico Rivera CA. Yes, they swept it up a bit. —mj

While living in Northern California, one of the bands I was in played at a pizza restaurant where we had to compete with a guy constantly announcing which order was ready for pickup! —Patrick |

Somewhere I have video of The Madeira playing at a place in Indianapolis. I think the place was called Moe’s Loading Dock. The stage was actually a freight elevator in the corner. They were all squeezed in, I thought it was a real hoot! |

The weirdest one I ever did was a community event, hosted by a supermarket. They seemed puzzled that we didn’t want to play with a very loud generator powering our equipment, and the fact that we were in front of a large building with plenty of power available, just inside the door never registered. Eventually! We got it sorted, but it was a real headache. —The artist formerly known as: Synchro When Surf Guitar is outlawed only outlaws will play Surf Guitar. |

About 5 years ago, the Hang-ten Hangmen were flown up the British Columbia coast to a fishing resort close to Bella Bella. We were the entertainment for a company retreat. All expenses paid...flight, stay at the resort, all food and drink covered. Our equipment was air lifted by helicopter as the only way to get there is helicopter from Vancouver and water taxi from Bella Bella after a choppy plane flight. We played to about 10 people at the resort. The rest were off to bed early so they could get an early start the next morning for their complimentary salmon fishing excursions. —Lorne |

We played in a warehouse in high school. They had one of those cheap Tiki Bars like they have at Big Lots as a bar and eventually got shut down for selling alcohol to minors. —Social Media |
