Hey Bass Wabbit, I've always liked those 8 string Hagstroms and yours is vintage, how does it play? —Patrick |

Hi Patrick. The Hagstrom 8-string is a beautiful bass. The neck is extremely thin with a shallow-D profile that makes it very comfortable to play, especially for someone like me, who has small hands. The octave strings allowed me to get a "tick-tack" bass and regular bass tone at the same time. In the early days I played through a Vox Westminster amp with a single 18" Goodman speaker so the octave strings gave me a little extra top-end to compete with the two guitars in the band. My first bass was an Italian-made Raven copy of the Hofner that had a neck like a tree trunk. Switching to the Hagstrom was a dream-come-true! —Bass Wabbit |

WOW, tOSUrfer, I don't remember that Fender Performer at all! Definitely a unique instrument. Were the pick-ups single coil or humbuckers? —Patrick |

Single coil. 24 frets. Fender only made them for 1-2 years between 85-87 (Japan). Thinnest neck of any bass that I have ever played. I love the look of it. I bought it new in 1986. Fender really should revive it. They also had a Performer guitar around the same time-same body style- sort of a George Jetson Strat style. |
