Good to hear it's helped others!
I've noticed I hear it building during the decay, not on the attack (it's almost like a kind of feedback) so my guess from hearing their comparison video is just having a shorter tail will probably help. You can hear a "fog" on the accutronic, not gibs or surfypan, in their video. The shrillness comes out of that "fog," like John Carpenter with a knife to stab people's ears.
The solution now for me is to cut the tank's tone, but then I lose drip.
Surferjoe, the ice picking is only when I use the tank (and I do turn down tone and volume. And use flats.) If I'd blame anything else I'd say its something to do with my jazzmaster, since it seems to be a specific resonance on certain notes that "runs wild" through the tank.

So... how soon is the restock? Should I keep checking back a few times a day at the store, or just wait for an announcement?

I think mid September realistically in USA. We are waiting for quite a lot of pans, the first batch went almost all in the production of new complete reverb units. But don’t worry there will be large availability.

For myself personally, the results are in. The surfy pan will be the pan of choice in my reverb unit for the foreseeable future. At home and at rehearsal, we are in a fairly small space. I had my first opportunity to take it to a gig last night. At even a small venue, there’s room for the sound to disperse and the decay time is not too long. There are tons of variables at play for sure, and I liked the settings at something like 555 or 666 for most songs and with a drip switch for certain songs or phrases with the mixer set about three. There’s plenty of drip on tap. Kudos to the surfy team for developing a great pan.

I’ve got to chime in here and mainly because I’ve been struggling to dial drip like I want it. I’ve added the SurfyPan, and it for sure has a more usable range of reverb verses the pan I swapped out in my classic. One thing and it took me a while to realize this, but the settings are very sensitive. I kept getting “some” drip and then I’d fiddle with something and lose it. So I spent a good two hours with the settings on the SB classic and also direct into my amp and its tone settings and finally think I’ve dialed in some super sweet drip that I hear. The new Surfypan was the extra sauce as the original pan had a longer tail and not able to get it exactly where I wanted. I’m very pleased with the Surfypan. I also bought a surfydrip pedal that arrived tonight and that’ll be on my board forever as well. I can now have two Reverb settings and flip back and forth with heavy drip and then step on the surfydrip for dialed back reverb. Happy here!

I'm still rocking my modern Accutronics being muffled by a sponge to tame the extremely long tail but it's not an ideal solution.
The introduction video is pretty clear to me: the Surfy Pan has a shorter decay and a sweeter high end than the modern Accutronics. The vintage Gibbs is a little stingy with both.
However it would be useful if anybody could post a video of their Surfy Pan.

I think with all due respect that even if someone posts a video it does not show you much. Your way of playing is only yours and yours only. You have to try the pan with your stuff to see if works good for you.
I would suggest you to just buy it and if you don’t like it give it back if possible or resell it. Not necessarily is the pan for you, but it’s worth trying it.

It's a tiny piece of foam that barely touches the springs. They still vibrate quite a bit but the reverb tail is shorter.

FINALLY installed a surfy pan into a hoffman style 6g15 layout. I don’t know if it’s hoffman’s circuit or the pan or both, but the drip is not quite there like it was with my older design. I can put an eq pedal in front and cut the mids and bump the highs and get some back. the decay feels shorter which is great! tone is overall darker and spongier than the non-surfy korean accutronics i have.
on the non-surfy accutronics, if you palm mute an open low e, for example, there’re 3 successive delay repeat like reflections (standing waves?) around 200 milliseconds-ish each (by ear) that seems more apparent. on the surfy, this is lessened a bit.
9/18/21 edit: tweaked some circuits and voiced some things and overall I’m pretty dang happy with the surfy pans. also drips like mad with cheap squier humbuckers on my baritone which surprised me.

Surfysonic, Just make sure the impedance matches what your vox needs. There are different impedances for reverb units and they don’t all work in different amps.

Good point, thanks, Eric! I learned that the hard way with my Vaporizer. I was pointed to this decoder for reverb tank impedance matching - Accutronics Reverb Tank Numbering System. While the Vox isn't listed, at least I might be able to identify what tank the Vox is currently using - I assume it's not a large tank.
