On Facebook Bob Cannistraro of the Beloved Invaders band (and a mechanical engineer by profession with deep interest in old recording techniques) recently clarified that this is NOT an Echoplex, despite its appearances. he wrote:

"Power supply for the microphone I think. You see similar devices in a lot of Beatles recording photos, Look at Echoplex photos, they only have one latch."

And in fact, it is obvious in the photo that it is plugged into the MICROPHONE, not the amp.

Correct! Thats not an Echoplex. It's a power supply It looks like a Sony C37a condenser mic which requires a separate 48v power supply to function.

This looks like the item:

Didn't post for a long time, but did continue reading the posts.
Sam, please STOP posting wrong information here or anywhere on the internet. You have ZERO experience and knowledge and you are simply giving wrong information ALL THE TIME. There is no mystery or secret on the surf sound. Guitar with single-coils - tank - amp - mostly Fender in each case. There is no secret ingredient like delay or flanger in the recordings of the first wave. You are mistaking a lot of things and every time you are asked to provide evidence, you simply bail out. So please stop posting and spreading misinformation. Thank you!

“Sam, your posts are increasingly just becoming white noise, and you're beginning to seriously damage SG101. Please - PLEASE - STOP posting about everything! You don't know nearly as much as you think you do! ENOUGH!!!?

Looks like I missed my calling - I should have been a Fiction writer.

Smile Good bye everyone have a nice life, I don't want to destroy Surf or destroy SG101 so decided to leave here.

The Brain can do a lot more! Sorry man, I enjoyed your weird theories but I can see where others are coming from. I like that you really use your ears.

But that’s no way to ragequit! You have to delete all your posts and then throw out a few insults.
