Eddie Angel is definitely one of my favorite guitarists, and my favorite instro guitarist, but I think Danny Amis is probably the better surf guitarist, purely by virtue of his occasional Dick Dale on meth riffs (that solo in Squid is killer) and his Hank Marvin fascination.

That's brilliant, Kyle (and Marie)! It oozes class, like Eddie himself. Wow, I still can't believe that he hangs out on the forum with us.
The way Eddie's staccato bass picking is right in lockstep with the drum fill on that track. So tight.

I like too many different kinds of bands and musicians to really say who my favorite guy, or band is, it all depends on what kind of mood I'm in.
But Im going to (venture) out here and say.
if we are asking who out favorite surf musician is.
shouldn't they have a reverb tank, and play real surf music?

This dude's pretty cool...
image
This guy's still my favorite...he's way better than Eddie and Shigeo and DickDale all put-together-into-one-super-surf-guitar-playing-body ...he's like all super-advanced-level Guitar Hero III ultra-rad, and stuff...
...he's even conquered the mega-hard DRAGONFORCE level!

Well done Kyle, that was excellent, I hesitate to use the word tribute as it usually indicates somebody is dead, and Eddie's not in the ground yet is he?

Well, certainly in my top five - "Mr. Moto" himself, Paul Johnson!

"Tears of the Dolphin"
That sounds very macabre to me. Probably not going to be a happy song.

it is, its a very sad sounding song.
the Surf Kings are in the realm of the Mermen, where they can really get out there and rock out, and get pretty Psyche.
but they also can do some very moody, introspective type stuff too.
you should check it out Jake.

I used to have some Surf Kings downloaded, this was ages ago though. I really liked it, then I lost my hard drive. What city are they from? I know they are southern california guys.
I used to mix up the Surf Kings and Urban Surf Kings.

p.s. Tom the Guitar player was in the Crossfires from the 60's.
for a short while, then he went into the army and they replaced him.
on the 1st surf kings cd they cover 3 Crossfires songs.

Man or Astroman? Starcrunch hands down the coolest surf guitar player ever. That guy single handedly changed the boundaries of surf guitar. The guy is a god in my book. If it wasn't for MOAM? half you cats wouldn't even be here.

After his performance last Sat I think Eddie Bertrand reminded a few people why belongs with those at the very top of the list... I hope people were also impressed by The Eliminators. They put in a lot of practice & hard work for this event.
