I think my all time favorite surf band is The Challengers.
But my newest favorites are Aqua Velvets, and Shig & Buzz
I, of course am my favorite guitarist...OUCH...I think my arm just broke.
For any bands that want to send me $5. YOU will become my favorite!!!

Space Cossacks. Hands down.
So many amazing bands though. I'm definitely melody driven versus a more trad riff sound.

...from trad riff/sounds to experimental, out-there tunes/tones...it is a shame however, that 30-plus years of playing in bands has left Sludge with hearing damage. He suffers from hyperacusis (over sensitivity to sound), tinnitus (ringing in the ears), and hearing loss.
...protect your ears! (I hand out ear plugs at shows when needed!)
If you haven't already, check out their CD from 1993 entitled "Surf-Pop-Sludge".

The Torquays.
Dario, I knew that was coming,
back a few years ago, the Torquays held the place as the band I had seen the most times, But sadly they have dropped off the map.
and my list.
I wish they would get back out there.

Very tough question! I don't think of my faves as being strictly surf, but I have to go with Satan's Pilgrims and Los Straitjackets. Both bands have written TONS of great tunes, and they both know how to put on a killer live show. Tough call, though, because there are lots of other bands - old and more recent - that I really like.

Slacktone! There are some fantastic bands around these days but the Watson/ Wronski combo is what gets my jaw on the floor. It's like a guitar lesson watching Dave, who uses his thumb more than anyone and finds the most beautiful chords I've never heard before, probably because your fingers need to stretch over 5 frets to play them. I guess you all know about that.

I don't want to make Ivan uncomfortable, but I'd have to say Mr. Pongracic is my surf idol. Also right up there are Jim Thomas and then probably Ferenc. Not at all coincidentally, those guys' current bands are my favorites, with the Mermen reigning at the top.
