Wowwwww. I wish they had that comp there when I used to work for the Big Green.
Hell, I might just pick it up for novelty's sake.

I don't know, I hope it is. Then we would be label-mates with Paul McCartney. Maybe go on tour with him...
No they picked it, but I am happy with the choice because it is a more recent song (which for personal reasons I feel are superior to our earlier stuff.) We are very excited to be included! Buy Speed of Dark @ Bandcamp |

I checked at work today and they don't have that loaded into the player yet. We have one of those new hard-drive players as opposed to the long play discs and casettes, but I think there is still a disc that arrives with the promotion that must be downloaded into the system. I was poking around today looking for it. My boss wasn't there. hehe The website for music at Starbucks is hearmusic.com. -K —"Turn the knob to 10 and break it off!" -Baja Marty |

The release date is just about right, for me, although I won't be able to go right out and buy it on the first day. The nearest Starbucks location is some 50 miles away, but I have several "excuses" to be up that way, come June 30, July 1 and July 4. Of course an excuse to be up that way is an excuse to stop by Starbucks, so you know I'll be looking for the surf comp! Matt —Fast Cars & Loud Guitars! |

Congrats to Ferenc and to all the artists on this comp ... I have heard that Starbucks is one of the largest music retailers in North America due solely to its distribution system. This can only be a good thing for surf music. Really glad to see PDM, Aqua Velvets, Mermen, Blue Hawaiians, etc. among the trad first-wave band classics. Muy cool! PS I will tell my sis about the release party in Seattle, JD. |

Wow!! Our bass player, John Hunt, was in the SurfPunks with Dennis Dragon who sits in with us on bongo's when he's here....one of the other guys lives on the Big Island.....any of you remember the skateboard guitar? The've got videos on YouTube......"My Beach,My Waves" "No Fat Chicks" etc. John looks so young in those vids......YIKES!! The TakeOffs |

I am pretty sure the guitar player in the Vanduras plays a Strat. My mom said she'll grab the cd for me the next time she goes there to get a ice cream sundae in a cup with a tid bit of coffee added to it. you wont catch me dead in a starbucks the smell hurts my head too much. Anybody go by Starbuck's today? I am in the middle of nowhere, so I can't get a disc until the end of the week. Buy Speed of Dark @ Bandcamp |

In the Blue Hawaiians Gary Brandin plays a Telecaster equipped with a Bronco tailpiece/tremolo as well as the lap or pedal steel, depending on space I suppose . He uses an old Rickenbacker combo amp with it. The Vanduras are him and his son and I don't think they would consider themselves a surf band even though the two are carrying a surfboard on the back cover. I always thought La Planche was a reference to the Plank which is what they used to call Telecasters. It is a great song, I happen to cover it. |

I picked up this comp on June 26th. Actually, I found it to be an excellent collection. If I knew nothing about surf, this one would be an excellent place to begin. Nice packaging, artwork, liner-notes insert...and a cool sticker! All of the "classic" first wave standards and nuggets are there, including several "not-technically-surf-but-great-nonetheless" instrumentals. Again, congratulations to Ferenc and PDM...this is one cool comp! -dp |

It seems to be a Rhino Records production released on the Starbucks label... |

Rhino assembled it, but it is on Hear, Starbuck's label. I am back from the middle of nowhere, and will hit up up a Starbuck's tomorrow to pick up the disc. Not for the coffee though, always tastes burnt to me. Might have a "Top Pot" donut-- Top Pot is a Seattle donut shop owned by the guitarist from King of Hawaii (surf connection!). Top Pot products are now carried in most Starbuck's nationally. Buy Speed of Dark @ Bandcamp |

It's been nice hearing something more familiar at work. The comp has helped to spark surf music discussion at my store already! Anyway, if any of my local pals are interested, I can get the CD for 30% off. Ferenc- I had no idea about Top Pot. Thanks for that info. Been riding my bike to work lately, and Starbucks is on the way...So I rode in, and over the outside loud speaker is Theme from Endless Summer!!!! For ONCE I felt at home in Starbucks! Nice compilation, surf is WELL represented, great track choices that should win over some new fans! —THe NEpTuNeS |

I went out looking for this yesterday at the Starbucks down the street from my office. No luck-it looked like they're musical selection was in a bit of disarray and they probably just hadn't put it out yet. My wife is on the case today. Hopefully she'll have better luck. -Taylor —drummer-Lava Rats |

Pft! The new promotion launched Tuesday! However, I must point out that not all Starbucks locations carry the same variety of CDs. Also, the CDs are auto-shipped by corporate, so ordering them is generally out of the individual locations' ability. —"Turn the knob to 10 and break it off!" -Baja Marty |

It surprised me that this location didn't have it. I knew some people a while back that worked there and at that time it was supposed to be a "model" location or something...don't know if it still is because that was a few years ago. I guess I could have asked the barista if they had it. -Taylor —drummer-Lava Rats |
