Wow! Nice work Jeff.

A pioneer Surf band like that would definitely warrant some pro video if at all possible (fingers crossed).

METEOR IV on reverbnation

Sorry No audio or video, you must be there!

This year will be my first SG101 convention and I want to make the best of it. I'll be coming from out of town and I'm not at all familiar with the area. If any of you experienced convention goers have advice you'd like to share it would be much appreciated.

Cool! Glad to hear you are coming.
If possible, come early, check out other things besides just the surf shows. Many museums, historical buildings, amusement parks. Etc.
Many great places to eat in LA, and OC.
Sign up for the Fender factory tour Friday morning in Corona, thread elsewhere in general discussion below.
If possible stay a day or 2 after for the historical surf music tour on
Monday morning.

Jeff,

Thank you for the reply! I should have mentioned that I'm planning on attending the factory tour.

When booking a place to stay, are there any areas to watch out for?

Maybe spin off another thread for people travelling to the convention.

I would like to share some news. Linda and I will be attending the 10th Annual Surf Guitar 101 Convention being held at the Alpine Village in Torrance, California on August 4th - 6th. We will be there Friday, the 4th, from 6pm to 12 pm and on Saturday, the 5th, from 12pm till midnight. We will have a table and will be selling Surf Raiders items including Surfin’ Fever CDs, Surf Raiders buttons and the 3rd edition of my book Surfin’ Guitars Instrumental Surf Bands of the Sixties.
For this event only, if you pre-order Surfin’ Guitars your cost will be $55 and you can pick up your book at the show! Regular price of the book is $60 plus postage. To pre-order you may send a $55 check/money order to Robert Dalley 1312 W. 8780 S. West Jordan, UT 84088. Please be sure to include your personal information such as address and phone number, plus Email if possible. Also on the dates of the show a limited number of books will be available for $60. If you want to order one from AmazonCreate here is the link https://www.createspace.com/5862474 and click on add to cart. $59.95 plus postage
If you have any edition of Surfin’ Guitars or any Surf Raiders memorabilia that you would like to have autographed feel free to bring them to the show and we will be happy to do so. We will be looking forward to seeing you and enjoying the shows. If you have any questions you may reach me at bob@dalley.org or 801-255-3116. bob@dalley.org
There will be a lot of 1960's musicians who are in the book so here is a perfect to pick up some autographs from them.
Thank you,
Bob and Linda Dalley

Newbie alert (that's me).

I've convinced my Wife we should go to the show..

I realize it's being held over 3 days, 2 @ Alpine Village in Torrance.. Sister's making plans to take me away from reverb nirvana on Sunday tho Cry

Anyhow, is there a FAQ or facebook page listing particulars?
-Is this a ticketed event?
-Never been to Alpine Village, seems like a.. mall? Parking etc...

I red there is a Fender factory tour on Saturday.. is it too late to squeeze two more?

Thanks in advance!

Pacopeco: Excellent news you are coming out!

  • There is a Facebook page for the SurfGuitar101 convention. Should be searchable (I'd link it but I'm currently on a FB self-imposed exile).
  • Pay at the door
  • Alpine Village consists of multiple buildings. Plenty of on-site parking.
  • There is a separate thread for the factory tour. Don't know if full or not.

Where are The Eliminators?

Last edited: May 28, 2017 14:27:55

They played the Surf convention a couple years ago.
They are taking this summer off.

Jeff(bigtikidude)

I'm going to be a newbie this year, too. I'm staying right on the beach in Redondo Beach near the marina. I'm looking for folks to car pool/share a cab since the Friday show and Sunday show are a decent little drive from Alpine Village. If anyone is interested in having a travel partner to split costs with, PM me here or on Facebook.
