Laughing Thank you for that da-ron most appreciated!

Just having a look around Uh-Oh

Since I've only seen 1 surf band in my life I don't get to play.

But if Dick Dale ever breaks up then it will be him,

I know. Few things are more shocking than the truth. I would say more but, but...I've said too much.

It was Dick Dale.

Hey! Ain't you heard?

There's No Surf in Cleveland.

I've got an instro-remake for this for album #2 but it's just not available yet. Quite a bit livelier.

Laika and the Cosmonauts. Saw them 2 times and would love to again.

+1
I was prepared to drop $750 for car, hotel, et cetera and endure a 10+ hour drive to see them in San Fran on their brief farewell in 2008, but my wife and I had a toddler and newborn. Sorry I did not get to see them.

Conversely, I did drop close to that to travel to Payallup (sp?) Washington just to see The Ventures in 2006. The toddler in the previous anecdote was a newborn at the time. His first concert - at six weeks old - was The Ventures. With pics and video. How cool for him.

Talk to Midwest Surf Guy,
Have him tell you about any surf shows going on in the Midwest.

The Astronauts!

The Torquays were a popular instrumental surf band from Orange County in Southern California from 1994 to 2008. I would love to see Armin Brown play the song he wrote : "Speedboat" again!!!

The Astronauts!

A friend told me this story about the astronauts. Husband is a big surf music fan, and his favourite band are the Astronauts. For his significant birthday his wife searched the internet and found the band, much to her amazement they were still going and after a few emails, they agreed to come and play. She was really pleased with herself and kept it secret til the big day.
So the day came and the band turned up. Ready to play. They had a bit of a struggle getting in but persuaded the venue staff they were the band. The wife came to meet them but there was some mistake.... Yes, she'd booked the uk band The Astronauts, described as arnarcho-folk punk rather than surf...

I was told this by a friend of the singer of the uk Astronauts, and I was puzzled how much they charged for her to think that an American band would fly over and play a small venue in the South of England. My friend said she should have been amazed they turned up at all as most of them have been dead for 20 years!

Anyway, be careful what you ask for, in case you get it...

Ha ha, that's brilliant!

She should have booked the Astronauts from Bielefeld (Germany)!

Los Apollos - cinematic surf music trio (Berlin)
"Postcards from the Scrapyard" Vol. 1, 2 & 3 NOW available on various platforms!
"Chaos at the Lobster Lounge" available as LP and download on Surf Cookie Records!

Oh, right,

Forgot that I posted on this thread. Thx BTD. I didn't mean to imply that there were no surf band opportunities here in the Heart of It All. I mean, I had my Dick Dale Experience just last year right up around Cleveland and so I Mr Dale will always hold my Surf virginity.

And I even tried to organize some SG101 alumni to meet up at the venue but through a series of misunderstandings an bad breaks (all theirs-I was at the appointed spot on time and wearing my RAMONES T as agreed) it wasn't to be.

Thanks again for the information- I'd click on it right now but I'm at work and we have a 'no social media' rule which is backed by an evil web-blocking algorithm.

As the Brits say,
Cheers

PS: The song is about how you can't SURF in Cleveland as in on Lake Erie. My version is instro and there-fore just a surf instro song set to the other song's melody.

Another Laika & the Cosmonauts fan chiming in here!

Also, Monsters from Mars; just for nostagia sake. Saw them right after I moved to San Francisco.

Science friction burns my fingers.

Are Los Twang Marvels officially broken up? Man, I want to see them live SO bad!

Wow, Tony and Ben coming out of the woodwork! Nice to see you both still visit.
