When I got my lacquer Jazzmaster I had a really tough time deciding between it and the Jaguar, really wanted both but at the time only wanted to pay for one.

The ultimate decision came down to color. Love the surf green (Jazz) hate fiesta red (Jag). Shallow I know but I figured either way I would get a great guitar, both suitable for surf.

My VM Jag is white with tort guard, put a staytrem bridge on both guitars. Like 'em both, the Squier Jag is noticeably heavier. Other than that I have no complaints.

My lacquer is now my number one with my VM Jag and Strat are an alternating number two.

Wish Fender made the lacquer Jaguar in a sunburst.

That brings up a good point.. never having seen fiesta red in person, not sure I will like it. I know I like surf green,,and I can get a Squier VM Jag in candy apple red.. my favorite..

Probably my Frankensteined 1963 Fender Jaguar

Well, I read ALL 50 pages in hopes that by the end, I would have learned enough to make a decision between Jaguar or Jazzmaster.. then, with the Squiers, I could get both for less than one Fender.. Really like the Fender Classic 60s with its nitro finish on both the fiesta red Jag and the surf green Jazzmaster..

I have the Classic 60s surf green Jazzmaster and it's my favourite guitar. The nitro finish is nice and it feels like a quality guitar. No locking trem on this model, though there is on the modern player but it's in the wrong place.

If you are unsure about Jag or Jazz- you have to go and play them as I found they are very different guitars. I found a Jaguar far too small (I'm quite broad shouldered with long arms) and I found it quite cramped. I'm used to the length of a jazzmaster and Rick 330, so for me the Jazzmaster felt way more comfortable.

I agree with da-ron - the Jag and the Jazz are very different - I bought a Jag at a very good price but for whatever reason I just couldn't get on with it - seemed to fight me all the way..Sold it and bought a Jazzmaster which I really enjoy playing. Definitely worth trying both before buying.

How about stretch bar cords? My hands get hurt (getting old sucks)., would the jags shorter scale make that much of a difference? I'm only 5'9 and shrinking so not too worried about getting cramped.. I am favoring the idea of the fender 60s lacquer jazz and the squier vm jag.. Unfortunately the closest Guitar Center is 70 miles, which I don't mind, but they don't stock the lacquer models.. Thanks for all the replies gents.. I have lots to ponder. Cool

I think you will be just fine. When I bought my MIM Classic 60's Jag in 2008, I really wanted a Jazzmaster but there wasn't anything available (new) in CAR at an affordable price. I am very happy with mine, and though she doesn't get much play now she is my one electric guitar...the slightly higher gain p'ups sit between a Tele and a Strat tone-wise and thats just where I need to be.

Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most...

Beautiful looking guitar. I've got the Classic Player Jazz which I think may have a larger neck radius and different pick ups to the Classic 60. Hopefully you'll love it - be interested to hear!

Nice!
I've been soooooo tempted by those
Please post your review Smile

It's already here! I ordered it weds afternoon and had it friday by 1pm.. can't beat that. It is absolutely beautiful! I'm not that great of a player, but my teacher is.. took it straight to him and said, here, play this.. WOW!
Now I know what it is capable of sounding like, I just have to practice..
The fit and finish is flawless.. I made a good choice.

Nice guitar!

I am not obsolete, I am RETRO.... Cool

The 60s Lacquer series has complete changed the sub-$1000 category. They are so nice, I've got a Strat myself. Fretwork is solid, the wood is all great, nitro(important to me for feel), nice enough metal, the nut is cut well, strat pickups aren't the best but the Jag/Jazz pickups are great.

I bought a Squier VM Jaguar last week and it's going back. Hate it. Don't like the sound or the feel of it. Maybe the Jazzmaster is better? Never played one.

Is that the Jag with humbuckers? A friend has one and I completely fail to see the point. The whole reason for the Jag is it's unique pickups imo.
